Peer Support Specialist Job at Gunnison Valley Health
The Peer Specialist is a person with lived mental health experience who uses their recovery experiences as a means to help others diagnosed with a mental illness find their own recovery process. The peer specialist is part of a multi-disciplinary team that participates in the planning and organizing of individual and group activities that promotes a range of self-help skills.
Education: High School or equivalent.
Experience: Advanced computer and keyboarding skills. (Must be able to operate basic functions in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word) and several EHR systems.) Successful completion of Peer Specialist Training and Peer Specialist Internship Program or a willingness to obtain this training. Experience working with consumers and/or family members of a consumer of mental health service is a plus. Experience as a family advocate is a plus.
Licenses/Certification: Must have a valid Colorado driver’s license within thirty days of hire.
Essential Functions:
- Provides crisis intervention, evaluation and case management services to clients accessing the emergency services system. These services are delivered in the office and within the community.
- Conducts initial screenings for persons requesting or referred to emergency services.

Facilitates psychosocial rehabilitation learning processes to support client recovery by:
Directing and teaching skills that include illness self-management, social and interpersonal effectiveness, independent community living competencies and job readiness.
- Refers and links clients to needed community resources in order to maximize client functioning; serves as advocate to provide support when asked to do so by the client.
- Participates in crisis intervention plans that may include providing transportation and acting as a companion for a person needing additional support during a crisis.
- Delivers person-centered, culturally sensitive, trauma informed services. These services may be delivered in various locations.
- Observes client behavior to identify change or indicators of specific needs and shares those observations with designated staff as needed in order to carry out treatment plan goals.
- Demonstrates positive role-modeling for the clients, mentoring and coaching utilizing recovery and rehabilitation concepts.
Compensation: $17.00 - $19.55/hr, depending on experience.

Full Time staff are automatically enrolled in 401A plan as of date of hire.
Life and AD&D insurance: All active employees working 40 or more hours per pay period are eligible for benefits on the first of the month after hire date.
Short-term and long-term disability: All active employees working 60 or more hours per pay period are eligible for benefits on the first of the month after hire date.
