The Marquette University Center for Peacemaking helps the University and the wider community to explore together the necessary skills to become informed, spiritually-centered, nonviolent peacemakers. Marquette University Peace Works (MUPW) is a program that aims to reduce and violence and encourages the formation of youth peacemakers in the Milwaukee community.

The Center is recruiting part-time Peace Works Office Assistants to assist with general office operations, development of Peace Works program communications, and various community engagement activities.

These positions are grant funded, temporary positions and do not include benefits. The positions will end by July 31, 2023.

We desire applicants who are organized, compassionate, self-reflective, mindful, flexible, and dedicated.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • General office/clerical support
  • Mentor students enrolled in Peace Works programming
  • Maintaining Social Media Accounts
  • Creation of Peace Works Newsletter and/or Blog
  • Writing articles on various topics
  • Community engagement projects
  • Drafting and reviewing written communications
  • Interview various Marquette speakers and employees
  • Copy session materials
  • Attend various Marquette programs, speakers and events
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Youth applying for this position must attend one of Milwaukee Public Schools Behavior Reassignment Schools (Banner Preparatory School or Lad Lake Synergy)
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, professional attitude
  • Willingness to have a flexible schedule
  • Computer competency, to include proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of social media techniques
  • Knowledge of and commitment to nonviolence
  • Warm, lively, and engaging personality; demonstrates the ability to influence peers
  • Passionate about interacting with other students; has a strong sense of humor
  • Excellent time management skills; ability to complete a project in a timely fashion
  • Demonstrates the ability to think critically and creatively; pays close attention to detail and is resourceful
