The Payroll Specialist is responsible for supporting both Human Resources and Accounting to maintain the integrity of the Payroll function to employees are paid correctly and on a timely basis. The Payroll Specialist will support the administrative office in Las Vegas, Nevada, and the mining and chemical processing facilities in Mountain Pass, California. While the position will be based in Las Vegas, Nevada, there may be occasional travel to the Mountain Pass, California site.

Essential Duties:

  • Educate and train site personnel on the procure to pay process and expense reporting (Concur)
  • Prepare batch check runs, wire transfers, and ACH transactions
  • Assist with monthly status reports, and monthly closing
  • Complete payroll on a bi-weekly basis for 3 locations (CA, NV, and TX) and approximately 450 hourly and salaried employees
  • Take ownership of payroll operations and communicate any issues or recommendations to improve processes
  • Process reports and assist with payroll related requests from outside providers, including but not limited to benefits and 401(k) providers
  • Communicate with Human Resources on any pay related issues affecting employee relations or with regard to leaves of absences
  • Assist in reconciling account balances related to benefits and payroll liabilities

  • Work with ADP support regarding issues or questions surrounding current payroll system or implementation of new systems or processes
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:*

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred but not required
  • High School Diploma or GED is required

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to pay close attention to detail
  • Sound judgement and the ability to make reasonable decisions in the absence of direction
  • Efficient time management skills and the ability to complete tasks by deadline

  • Must be able to work as part of a team and independently
  • Ability to enter data with consistent accuracy
  • Able to adapt and remain positive during changes to processes and working conditions
  • Strong, professional communication skills in listening, speaking, and writing necessary for communication with all levels of employees
  • Valid Driver’s License and good driving record required to drive vehicles on property
