The Payroll Specialist I is responsible for multiple financial activities relating to company bi-weekly payroll functions. This includes managing the timely and accurate processing of payroll data for 1,000-1,500 salary and hourly employees. Integrity and strong attention to detail are crucial for this role.

Job Duties:

  • Prepare bi-weekly payroll process for Canadian payroll of hourly and salaried employees for Strategic Aviation and Sky Café Ltd.
  • Action all payroll transactions for Strategic Aviation and Sky Café including: DF action forms, Per Diems, boot reimbursements, ROE’s, payroll elections, retro payments and errors. Action/verify deductions such as parking and union dues to ensure they are accurately entered and updated in the pay system. Exception: Salary calculations
  • Save forms to appropriate pay period files on the google drive – Averaging 70-100 per PP
  • Prepare ROE and final pay cheques for departing employees
  • Provide guidance to managers to ensure compliance with applicable federal and provincial legislation and Union Agreement
  • Create Ceridian cases as required.
  • Address management questions and action manager requests such as unlocking timesheets.
  • Facilitation and management of payroll emails, by responding to queries in a timely and communicative manner.
  • Prepare pay period reports for WSIB ON (monthly), and WorkSafe BC (Quarterly). Enter report premiums on website; send reports to the Senior Payroll Specialist III for review.
  • Address any HR and employee queries that relate to Strategic Aviation and Sky Café Ltd. as long as they are transactional in nature, such as stop payments, VOID & re-issue cheques and off-cycles. All queries that require background work or complex calculations should be referred to the Senior Payroll Specialist III.
  • Policy review and adjustments prior to payroll commit for PTO and birthday time off requests.
  • Prepare and send union dues reporting to the Union and AP
  • Other projects/duties as assigned and mutually agreed upon
  • Payroll review prior to processing each PP: Review reports, review data entry, check timesheets for errors and unauthorized punches for the pay period and send management emails.
  • Address Service Canada requests such as ROE confirmations, reasons, dates etc.
  • Assist with year end review, adjustments and reconciliations

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of payroll processing experience in a medium to large sized organization
  • Strong knowledge of payroll systems, and internal controls
  • Knowledge of Canada Labor Code and Canadian Provincial Labor Standards
