The Payroll Manager will oversee and supervise the organization’s payroll functions, ensuring that payroll is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with government regulations. This position will help to process multiple payrolls as well as work to implement and streamline best payroll processes.

The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of payroll management experience that must include complex and fast-paced payroll environments, involvement in payroll system implementations and a solid tenure of identifying payroll process issues and providing timely solutions.

How you will spend your time….

  • Effectively leading the team of employees to include coaching, counseling, training, performance reviews and employee development.
  • Overseeing the processing of 3,000+ employees across the US and Canada on various pay cycles and other ad-hoc payments processed by the Payroll function.
  • Audits accuracy of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws while staying abreast of changing policy as it occurs and reacting appropriately.
  • Ensures compliance with wage and hour laws and best practices.
  • Managing special payroll activities such as Relocation, Imputed Income, Deferred Compensation payments, stock vesting, bonus pay outs.
  • Reviews and tests union contribution calculations.
  • Evaluates payroll processes and recommends improvements.
  • Point of contact for and oversight of payroll internal and external audits that include but not limited to SOX controls, Workers’ Compensation, state tax audits, etc.
  • Develops and enhances system and process controls.
  • Researches payroll related questions.
  • Overseeing and managing end of year reporting as required to include W-2 and 1099 processing.
  • Communicates with all levels of management as well as keep open lines of communication with HR Business Partners.
  • Protects organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
  • Contributes to team effort through collaboration on projects.
  • Approving and releasing manual off-cycle check payments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Managing payroll complexities in a fast-paced business environment.
  • Strong ability to effectively manage team members and work as leader of the team.
  • Exceptional analytical and technical skills.
  • Ability to analyze/interpret data and take appropriate actions.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; appropriately communicates with all levels of employees.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Organization, attention to detail, productivity, timeliness, and dependability.

Required Experience:

  • 10 years of payroll leading/management experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or related field preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of the payroll function including preparation, balancing and internal controls.
  • Proficiency with ADP Workforce Now & ADP Enhanced Time.
  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP).
