Description:

  • The patient observer will provide constant and direct observation of the patient with suicidal ideation.
    Provide one on one constant and direct observation of patient with suicidal ideation. Provide one on one direct observation at all times when the patient leaves the unit for diagnostic studies. Secure patient area for objects/equipment that may harm the patient. Support activities of daily living (ADL) under RN supervision.

    Communicates with patient and family by introducing self, informing patient/family of role patient observer. Communicates with nursing staff regarding: report to relief staff, notification of inappropriate patient/.visitor behavior to the nurse. Maintains patient confidentiality. Demonstrates sensitivity patient needs. Maintains safety for self.

    Minimum Education:
    Required: High School Diploma plus training acquired through work experience or education
    Preferred: Associates Degree
    Specify Degree(s): Paramedic/EMT training, Med student, nursing student with completion of one semester of clinical rotation

    Minimum Experience:
    Required: Less than one year of previous job-related experience
    Preferred: 1-2 years of previous job-related experience
    Details: Paramedic/EMT training. Medical student or nursing student with completion of one semester of clinical rotation.

    Licensure/Certifications:
    Required: CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)
    Preferred:
    Emergency Medical Technician (NR-EMT-P)
    Licensed EMT Paramedic State of Illinois
    Licensed EMT-Basic and/or Paramedic State of Illinois
    Other: Medical student or nursing student with completion of one semester of clinical rotation
