The Office of Innovation and Incubation (I&I) provides incubation, management, and oversight of charter, contract, and alternative schools as options for CPS students and families. I&I also leads the district’s Academic RFP process, which provides school communities across the city with access to highly demanded programs. I&I oversees 132 schools and programs, including charter school campuses, contract schools, Alternative Learning Opportunities Programs (ALOP) and SAFE Schools, which together educate well over 60,000 students.

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Director of School Quality and Support, the Parent Support Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Office of I&I with various projects including, assisting with the parent support process, answering parent calls, and referring questions from schools to various departments.

This is a part-time/temporary position with an expected schedule of 24 hrs/week, W-F 9-3 p.m. Start dates may be flexible.

The Parent Support Coordinator will be held accountable for the following responsibilities:

  • Field inquiries from parents visiting CPS
  • Make calls and send emails related to duties
  • Understand charter and contract schools as related to duties
  • Analyze each school's parent issue resolution processes
  • Review all schools' websites to ensure that their Board Schedule is listed with dates and locations
  • Liaise between parents and schools and/or CPS departments to ensure parent concerns are resolved
  • Respond to school inquiries and escalate to the appropriate individual within the Office of Innovation and Incubation and CPS
  • Order office supplies; Support the onboarding of new employees
  • Support I&I Senior Leadership as needed

In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Parent Support Coordinator must possess the following qualifications:

Type of Education Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is preferred

Type of Experience Recommended:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of customer service experience
  • Experience working in an urban educational setting preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong analytical, communication, organizational and writing skills
  • Strong creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Understanding of racial justice and equity principles
  • Excellent use of computers and software including Microsoft Office Suite and Google applications.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Conditions of Employment

As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:

  • Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency - Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions, however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.
  • Be Fully Vaccinated Against COVID-19 - Unless approved for a medical or religious exemption, all employees are required to be up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccinations, including boosters, and to submit proof of vaccination to the district within 30 days of hire. “Up-to-date” on vaccination is defined as being at least two weeks past all primary vaccine doses and any applicable boosters. Unvaccinated staff with an approved exemption must submit to weekly testing.
