Responsibilities
- Lead: Train, schedule, and supervise OE instructors and retreat staff. You will lead group orientations, staff training and meetings, and various activities. You will be a leader at camp.
- Schedule: You will work collaboratively and communicate with group leaders to schedule activities and offer a ‘guest first’ experience. You will schedule staff to meet the needs of each program.
- Collaborate: The voice of everyone at camp matters. You will work with each department, diverse staff, and guests from all over to create an inclusive, engaging experience.
- Create: Create fun, unique experiences for our campers and families. You will be encouraged to create and implement new activities and/or programs with the assistance of the Program Director.
- Curriculum Development: Create, edit, and/or update curriculum that is engaging to today’s youth. Ensure that classes, activities, and offerings are aligned with Indiana’s state guidelines for school education. Create clear, actionable lesson plans and talking points for instructors.
- Support: Supporting patrons and staff alike to create an equitable experience. Camp is for all, and some folks need some extra support to get the most out of camp. Summer season responsibilities include assisting the Program Director with summer camp programming, overseeing aspects of teen programs, assist with lifeguarding and CPR classes, and assist with climbing/high ropes facilitation and safety. Act as Manager on Duty when assigned.
- Activities: Programs overseen in the Spring/Fall season include but are not limited to canoeing, teambuilding, rock climbing & high ropes, lake study, survival skills, archery, predator/prey, low ropes, and pioneer life. Evening programs include but are not limited to campfires, night awareness, Olympics and our Potawotami Trail.
Requirements
- Candidates must be committed to contributing to the mission, culture, and values of YMCA Camp Potawotami and the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne as well as…
- Must be at least 21 years of age with experience working with children and youth, outdoor education and retreat programs, and staff supervision.
- Experience in education, science, or recreation as well as certifications in First Aid, CPR, and lifeguarding is a plus.
- Knowledge about outdoor environment with ability to plan and organize, be comfortable speaking with parents, work with a team, and have flexibility.
- Promote and incorporate the YMCA core values and mission into all aspects of the job and in the community.
- Team player who is able to fulfill all demands in spirit, mind, and body as an Adventure Supervisor.
- Positive, service-oriented attitude serving diverse groups of campers in regard to age, ethnicity, gender, race, economic status, religion, etc.
