Hennepin County’s Human Resources (HR) department is seeking an experienced Organization Development Consultant to provide expertise in organization development and change management initiatives across county departments.

Location and hours:

This position is remote. Remote workers may be required to come on-site an average of 0 to 12 days a year for work meetings, trainings, or for any other reasons that their supervisor may deem necessary (may include additional days for onboarding and new employee training). Supervisors will provide as much advance notice as practicable. Hours will be flexible, working 8 hours per day during core business hours, Monday - Friday 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.

While this position is designated as remote, based on current requirements hires must reside in Minnesota or Wisconsin.

This is a limited duration (up to 24 months), full-time benefit earning mobility assignment position. You must be a current permanent, probationary, or limited-duration employee of Hennepin County to apply.

This position is a job mobility assignment, with participation for up to 24 months. A mobility assignment is a voluntary job change to a different department that is filled by a regular or probationary employee to carry out the duties of the same or a different job class. Mobility assignments allow employees to develop a particular expertise and prepare for promotional opportunities as well as facilitate, support, and accelerate knowledge transfer across departments. Job mobility assignments are temporary; employees typically return to their original department at the conclusion of their mobility assignment.

In this position, you will:
  • Provide organization development (OD) consulting services to assist leaders with team effectiveness, leadership development, assessment, coaching, talent management, employee engagement, workplace culture, and organizational change.
  • Collaborate with HR partners to develop and implement integrated solutions for customers.
  • Participate in or lead cross-functional project teams to address workforce issues and continuously improve HR services.
  • Identify strategies, methods, tools, and measures to promote organizational effectiveness, communication, and development.
  • Build relationships across the department and organization to promote and enhance organization development services.
Need to have:
  • One of the following:
    • Seven or more years of professional human resources and/or organization development experience.
    • Certificate in human resources from an approved college or university and five or more years of professional human resources and/or organization development experience.
    • Two years of college including 12 semester credits in the below fields and five or more years of professional human resources and/or organization development experience.
    • Bachelor's degree or higher in business administration, industrial relations, human resources administration, organization development, public administration, psychology or a field closely related to the position and three or more years of professional human resources and/or organization development experience.

    • Consulting with leaders to identify and implement strategies to strengthen workplace culture, team effectiveness, leadership development, and employee engagement.
    • Applying change management approaches in business situations.
  • Knowledge of OD principles and practices, organizational behavior and team/group dynamics, change management and consulting models, drivers of employee engagement, assessment tools, leadership development, and talent management tools and processes.
  • Ability to consult with leaders, assess customer needs, facilitate groups, manage multiple projects and assignments, build relationships, and work collaboratively across the department and organization.
  • Commitment to utilizing equity informed approaches and practices in the workplace.
  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion with a focus on disparities reduction.
