Brief Position Description:
To understand the quarry operation and be able to operate the fixed and mobile equipment to safely produce the required quantity and quality of material for the quarry customers.
Specific Accountabilities:
- Take a personal interest in personal and team safety. Continuously look for ways to improve safety and assist others to the same. Must be dedicated to the safety of yourself and coworkers. Follow all company guidelines and safety standards. Attend safety meetings as scheduled.
- Inspect all operating equipment each shift, complete inspection sheet and report problems immediately to the Quarry Supervisor.
- Correct any and all malfunctions or irregularities of operating equipment and safety hazards or report to quarry supervisor if corrections cannot be made.
- Regular communication with Quarry Supervisor is required to identify or anticipate issues, allowing quick mitigation or prevention of quarry issues.
- Do any cleanup that is necessary to have a better and safer working environment.
- Qualification required on, including daily safe and proper operation of, mobile equipment to include, depending on quarry operational requirements, but not limited to, front end loaders (993s, 992s, 980s, etc.), haul trucks, dozers, backhoes, grader, excavators, fuel truck, and skid steer loaders. This includes inspection of each piece of mobile equipment. Completion of inspection sheet is required.
- Taking accurate and reliable counts of material additions as required.
- This job requires shift work, callouts, scheduled and unscheduled overtime, weekend and holiday work. Employee may have work schedule adjusted on short notice. The current rotation is 10 hr. shifts, but this may change as quarry volumes increase or decrease.
- Perform any and all tasks assigned by the Quarry Supervisor, Quarry Management, or other Plant management.
Qualifications:
Educational Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
Knowledgeable in mobile equipment operations, troubleshooting, Cement manufacturing equipment, mechanical/electrical ability, able to perform physical labor, good communication abilities and perform job requirements and essential functions.
ADA Limitations While performing the duties of this job the employee must be able to travel through a cement plant, i.e., walk over obstacles, climb stairs and ladders, lift heavy or awkward parts, wear personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, fall protection, etc.). The employee will at times be exposed to extremely hot/cold, dusty, noisy, or dark situations. At times, work will be performed at great heights or in small confined spaces.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee will frequently be required to walk on rocky, irregular surfaces that may be muddy and in reduced lighting conditions. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100+ pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles, confined space, outside weather conditions, low lighting, artificial lighting, and explosives. The employee is regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, heat, proximity to electrical equipment, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and occasionally loud.
