GENERAL FUNCTION AND JOB DUTIES
Central Piedmont is in search of a Simulation operations Technician for the HPHS Simulation Center. This position will support the educational and experiential learning experiences for all of our health programs. The healthcare simulations are in a state-of-the-art outpatient and acute care simulation center located on the Central Campus.

General Function
This position works as part of a team to develop and deliver simulation-based education designed to enhance student learning, quality in healthcare, and patient safety. The main focus of a Simulation Operations Technician is to provide technical support for all simulation operations including preparation, maintenance, and repair of mid and high-fidelity manikins and task trainers, and related multimedia peripherals. Duties may also include programming, testing, and running scenarios with faculty instructors or simulation educators, assuring that the facility and equipment are set up for all simulations.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
1. Participates in scenario and event planning to provide technical expertise on capabilities and limitations of equipment and facility to meet student learning objectives.
2. Sets up, programs, tests, and runs scenarios and events with sim educators and faculty. Includes trial runs of events to identify gaps and adjustments required for a successful educational experience.
3. Work collaboratively with ITS for technical support of computers, LCD projectors, video cameras and microphones, and Learning Space software.
4. Understands the use and operation of different simulator technologies ranging from anatomic models and task trainers, to screen-based simulations to full body patient simulators, standardized patients, and virtual reality simulators.
5. Develop technical proficiency with all aspects of the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair for all simulation equipment.
6. Serves as a primary contact with equipment manufacturers regarding equipment troubleshooting and system problems. Maintains records of repairs.
7. Schedules and conducts routine equipment preventive maintenance, inventory updates, and equipment purchases. May provide equipment recommendations.
8. Installs software and hardware upgrades and maintains functionality of manikin components as directed by the manufacturer support.
9. May assist or lead in costuming and moulage requirements for scenarios and events.
10. May assist in inventory management of equipment and consumables.
11. Supports accreditation needs as required.
12. Actively participates in strategic action plan and program improvement initiatives.
13. Other duties as assigned.
14. Speaks and participates in scenarios as a standardized participant when needed.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Characteristics
- Knowledge of institution’s policies and procedures; maintains confidentiality

- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment
- Able to work independently or as part of a team
- Strong working knowledge of medical equipment, computer and simulation systems, and various software systems
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Associate degree from a regionally accredited institution and;
Two years healthcare work experience (simulation or technology related field)
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution in simulation, a relevant health or technology discipline.
Simulation experience with simulation manikins and standardized participants
Experience in instructing basic and or advanced life support training
Licensure or Certification in health related field highly preferred
Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist (CHSOS) preferred

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary for this position is $42,935 - $54,268. Pay grade for this position is K. Initial placement for new employees is customarily at entry level through 25% percentile. Contract type is Professional. Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include off-shift hours, evening and weekend assignments may be required of any position. All positions are subject to budget approval.
