Description
  • Supervises and directs the daily and long range operation activities of a unit, to include reviewing, writing & prioritizing daily and permanent work orders.
  • Reviews refinery safety and environmental practices and procedures, and safety and environmental hazards of the process materials, chemicals and catalysts in assigned area with operating crews on specific jobs, on shutdown and start-up procedures, and on unusual operations.
  • Ensures the safety of all personnel by enforcing safety expectations and encouraging compliance.
  • Ensures operators prepare equipment correctly and safely for maintenance, following all relevant procedures and policies. This includes work permitting and confined space entry procedures and addresses all safety issues as needed.
  • Inspects the plant with operators to maintain housekeeping standards. Ensures through the operators that clean-up is done after maintenance work, and that conditions that could lead to housekeeping problems are corrected.
  • Maintains inventories and monitors usage of operating supplies, consumable safety supplies and miscellaneous supplies.
  • Communicates and collaborates with all refinery departments, including other Unit Superintendents, to meet operational objectives.
  • Monitors plant performance to maximize capabilities and efficiency and continually seeks for opportunities of improvement.
  • Participates in setting objectives in turnaround and shutdown planning; generates work lists, blind lists, etc.
  • Coordinates daily maintenance and maintains operational files for logs.
  • Participates extensively in managing and implementing PSM, MOCA, and HAZOP guidelines and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with PSM which includes writing First Reports of incidents, participating in and leading incident investigations and Hazop studies, and both writing and editing operating manuals procedures.
  • Troubleshoots/solves unit operational and maintenance problems.
  • Monitors employee situations, which require knowledge of Company policies and procedures and addresses any performance issues as needed.
  • Collaborates with Operators in implementing team management style; and all other aspects of supervisor employee relations.
  • Reviews operational data and lab analysis daily and cooperates with Laboratory, Pumping and Product Control personnel to ensure product quality and the disposition of products and the availability of modified asphalts.
  • Develops and provides necessary operator training in operations and safety with the assistance of the Training and Safety Departments and ensures operators remain compliant with all mandatory training.
  • Ensures environmental compliance, including surveillance and evaluation of Computerized Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS).
  • Attends daily Complex meeting and communicates to operating personnel daily guidelines orally and written to maintain effective and efficient operations.
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Works with the Environmental Department as required to maintain all environmental regulations.

This position is salaried nonexempt status, which means you are eligible for overtime pay

Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 5 years of refinery operations experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • 8 years of overall experience in a refinery preferred.

Position level and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
