We are currently recruiting a OMT - Mechanical Maintenance Technician to be based with our O&M business in St. Gabriel, Louisiana at the Carville Energy Power Plant. This position will primarily be responsible for installing, troubleshooting and repairs of mechanical equipment, piping, valves, and machinery at a combined cycle power plant. This position will also support Instrument and Electrical technicians when necessary. The equipment includes but is not limited to Two GE 7FA Combustion Turbine Generators, two Alstom HRSG’s, one Alstom Steam Turbine Generator, Water Plant and associated auxiliary equipment. Strictly adheres to all safety and environmental rules and regulations to protect employees and public safety. The position will report to the Maintenance Manager.

Job Responsibilities

  • Under the general direction and supervision of the Maintenance Manager or his designee, the technician maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs mechanical equipment as required including, but not limited to, the following:
  • Diagnoses and repairs the cause of mechanical equipment malfunctions such as pumps, valves, fans, piping, structures, tools, etc. Reviews oil analysis and vibration data and alerts manager of out of limit trends.
  • Proficient at troubleshooting and diagnosing problems with mechanical equipment with the ability to apply a resolution in a timely fashion.
  • Proficient at repairing, replacing, dismantling and inspecting defective plant equipment and parts such as pumps, valves, fans, gearboxes, demineralizers, compressors, and turbine components.
  • Perform piping modifications/installation in the plant for system upgrades and repairs.
  • Capable of setting up and operating a drill press, pipe threading machine, grinder, lathe and other various tools to make and repair parts and equipment.
  • Capable of operating welding and cutting equipment and complete metal fabrication projects.
  • Thorough understanding of ASME Section 1 and B31.1 codes.
  • Performs the maintenance of equipment by cleaning, adjusting, tightening fittings, replacing valve packing, gaskets, valves, and gauges, performing preventative or corrective maintenance and identifying equipment in need of corrective maintenance.
  • Assist I&E Techs. when required to perform their duties and possess the ability to perform minor Instrument/Electrical tasks with training
  • Competently manage assigned backlog and PM’s, complete work in acceptable timeframe with minimal rework
  • Coordinates purchasing with appropriate personnel and vendors in an effort to achieve timely repair of plant equipment Essential Duties & Responsibilities Includes, but not limited to, the following. Other duties may be assigned by Facility Management and Maintenance Manager as needed:
  • Competently maintains a combined cycle power generating facility equipment with minimal guidance or assistance.
  • Resolves the most complex technical issues, conferring with Manager occasionally; may serve as resource to others in resolution of complex issues. Independently prioritizes and executes responsibilities effectively and efficiently
  • Duties and tasks reflect substantial variety and complexity
  • Prioritizes own weekly schedule and may guide others in the completion of tasks within clearly defined schedules as set by management
  • Utilize the plant computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for maintaining the maintenance history, generating work orders and managing spare parts.
  • Assist in review of spare parts inventory as required to cost effectively minimize equipment down time and assure high plant availability.
  • Performs capital project and/or major program responsibilities as assigned.
  • Repairs, replaces, dismantles and examines defective parts along with lubricating and cleaning parts.
  • Diagnoses cause of mechanical malfunction or failure of equipment.
  • Reads, understands and complies with all regulatory and facility safety procedures.
  • Coordinates with and directs outside contractors when required to ensure they adhere to the facilities policies and procedures and perform quality work.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of all areas of the plant.
  • Will be required to operate a fork lift and manlift.
  • Cooperates and participates as a facility team member.


Required Skills / Knowledge

  • Demonstrates knowledge of all facets of power plant operations
  • Capable of writing maintenance procedures, managing work requests, and purchase requisitions
  • Demonstrates the ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, technical manuals and P&ID's
  • Mechanical equipment knowledge is required, minor instrumentation and electrical equipment knowledge is also preferred
  • Proficient in basic computer skills and the use of the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).


Experience

  • This position requires a minimum of 5 years’ experience in power plants.
  • Experience with Gas Turbine, Steam Turbines and Heat Recovery Boilers is preferred.
  • Must have effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with others and be self-directed


Education Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.


Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb stairs, use hands and fingers dexterously to operate tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and communicate orally.
  • Vision abilities required.
  • Sitting for extended periods may be required.
  • The employee must be able to transport up to 50 pounds and occasionally transport up to 100 pounds.
  • Dependable, reliable and predictable attendance is required
  • Position requires extended working hours and the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by workload and plant conditions.
  • Ability to be “on-call” outside of normal working hours. The “on-call” period will be defined by the Maintenance Manager.
