POSITION TITLE: OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST III (REGIONAL)

STATUS: Permanent / Full-Time (1.0 FTE)

SALARY: $4,337+ $3,035 (shortage differential) per month at 1.0 FTE | SR20 | BU13

LOCATION: This is a regional position located in the Rehabilitation – Occupational Therapy department of Kaua’i Veterans Memorial Hospital (KVMH). KVMH, Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital (SMMH), and The Kaua’i Region Clinics, which consist of: The Clinic at Waimea, The Clinic at Port Allen, The Clinic at Kalaheo, The Specialty Clinic at Kalaheo, The Clinic/Urgent Care at Po’ipu, and The Clinic at Kapa’a are all part of the Kaua’i Region, Hawai’i Health Systems Corporation, a public benefit corporation of the State of Hawai’i.

The Occupational Therapy department Provides evaluation, treatment, and/or prostheses to improve, maintain, or restore the capabilities of injured, disabled, or emotionally disturbed patients. Provides activities such as group therapy, recreation, library services, industrial therapy, arts and crafts, activities of daily living, massage, and gait training, and muscle re-education. This department also maintains treatment records and provides staff education and development.

JOB FUNCTIONS: The Occupational Therapist III is responsible for providing occupational therapy services at both facilities including performing diagnostic assessments, preparing and implementing treatment plans and other therapeutic activities to in-patients, residents, and out-patients as an integral member of a multi-disciplinary in conjunction with the Physical Therapy. This position requires travel to other facilities within the region on a regular basis. This Occupational Therapist III reports directly to the Regional Physical Therapist IV, position no. 29281, or its designee.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated, the required education and experience are credited based on a 40-hour workweek. Also, please see below the additional requirements according to the specific position. All applicants are required to provide evidence of all applicable education, licenses, and certifications.

Education: Applicants for all levels must have a baccalaureate degree in occupational therapy from a school of occupational therapy approved at the time of graduation by the American Occupational Therapy Association, Inc. in collaboration with the American Medical Association; or in the case of a foreign-trained person, the credentials indicating completion of an occupational therapy education program shall be evaluated and approved by the Certification Committee of the American Occupational Therapy Association, Inc. In addition, applicants must have successfully completed the fieldwork requirements prescribed by the degree-awarding school.

Licensure:

• Valid and active license with the State of Hawai’i as an Occupational Therapist (OT);
• Possession of a current, valid State of Hawai’i driver’s license, Type 3.

Certifications:

• In accordance with Chapter 457G of the Hawai’i Revised Statues (HRS), all applicants shall have passed the occupational therapist national certification examination administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT);
• Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Workers issued by the American Heart Association.

Experience: None required.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

Knowledge of: Functional anatomy, kinesiology, neuroanatomy, physiology, neurophysiology, abnormal and educational psychology, and related sciences; principles and practices of occupational therapy; occupational therapy diagnostic evaluation and testing procedures; various treatment techniques; trends and developments in occupational therapy; available occupational therapy resources in the community; and,
for some positions, principles, and practices of supervision.

Ability to: In addition to that specified for the prior levels, interpret and formulate operating policies and procedures, and planning, coordinate, and conduct an occupational therapy program; advise and counsel staff effectively; prepare program budget; explain the program of services offered to clients and the public; for some positions, supervise the work of others.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Applicants must be physically able to perform, efficiently and effectively, the essential duties of the position which typically require the ability to read without strain printed material the size of typewritten characters, glasses permitted, and the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, or the ability to compensate satisfactorily.
