Title: Obstetrics Coordinator Location: Upper East Side Work Days: Monday-Friday Exemption Status: Non-Exempt Salary Range: $25.34 - $29.62 \*As required under NYC Human Rights Law Int 1208-2018 - Salary range for this role when Hired for NYC Offices *Position Summary* Under supervision, is responsible for the coordination and scheduling of obstetrics related appointments, procedures, and admissions. The Obstetrics Coordinator also assists in the efficient and effective management of monthly OB patient loads and tracking changes in pregnancy status for the purposes of billing. *Job Responsibilities* * Performs intake on patients requesting a New OB Appointment; assigns to physician based on patient preference as well as monthly quotas/caps per physician. Schedules initial appointment and provides patient relevant information prior to the visit. * Responsible for entering and updating all patient information in the OB database, carefully monitoring monthly OB volumes per physician, and monitoring OB schedules and physician availability to manage release time accordingly and in advance. * If applicable, provides front desk and check-out coverage as needed. * Completes pregnancy related disability forms for patients. * Coordinates and schedules D & C’s, c-sections, inductions as ordered by the provider. Functions as liaison between surgeon/obstetrician, operating room (OR) scheduling team/L&D team, and obstetrics patients. * Conducts surgical, imaging, and delivery pre-determination, authorization, pre-certification and related appeals. Transmits correspondence to insurance companies for medical necessity inquires. Manages processes/documentation avoid scheduling delays. * Communicates detailed information and answer patients' questions regarding surgery or imaging preparation instructions and arrival/departure instructions relative to procedure. * Prepares the patient’s medical chart with all necessary surgical and preadmission paperwork. Scans patient documents in the practice management system. * Ensures surgeons/obstetricians are well informed on the status of their cases. * Provides feedback to management on process improvements or opportunities for utilization enhancement and patient flow efficiency. * Trains support staff for back-up responsibilities. * Assists physicians with administrative tasks related to patient communication and care, including phone calls, messaging, mailing, faxing and scanning documents. * Verifies patient insurance eligibility and obtains necessary pre-authorization numbers, if required, prior to appointment date. Facilitates the communication and collection of any fees due from patient. *Education* * High School Diploma *Experience* Approximately 2 or more years of experience in a patient-facing clinical setting. *Knowledge, Skills and Abilities* * Previous experience using computerized appointment scheduling systems (EPIC preferred) and/or electronic Medical Record (eMR) system (ideally EPIC-Care). * Demonstrated knowledge of CPT, ICD-9, and ICD-10 coding. * Working knowledge of third party payor reimbursement - Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care and commercial insurance. * Knowledge of medical terminology. *Working Conditions/Physical Demands* Weill Cornell Medicine is a comprehensive academic medical center that's committed to excellence in patient care, scientific discovery, and the education of future physicians in New York City and around the world.
