The Nutrition and Food Systems Educator is responsible for assessing, developing, delivering and evaluating programs that address community (adult and youth) nutrition and food system related needs.Programs are developed utilizing input from various consumer groups that represent both youth and adult populations in Warren County. Provides subject matter expertise in the area of nutrition and related topics.
The Educator develops educational materials, program outlines, and utilizes existing resources for implementation when available.Works with Cornell University and other Land grant colleges to foster community-campus collaborations. Deliver current curriculum programs as defined and innovative programs with discretion. Assure that the programs strive to meet the nutrition needs of urban, suburban, and rural communities of diversity while also staying within the University program plan of work.
Collaborates in delivery of educational programs with other members of the Warren Cornell Cooperative Extension team, colleagues in regional (multi-Association) and statewide programs, and Cornell faculty related to youth development, agriculture & natural resources and parenting/family life.
Required Qualifications
- Master’s degree in nutrition, health education, public health, or related field.
- Experience relevant to the role of position.
- Ability to help ensure diverse, equitable, and inclusive programs. Commitment to working in a variety of settings (including rural, urban and suburban) with diverse program participants and the community-based agencies that serve them.
- Ability to meet regular travel requirements associated with this position. A valid NYS driver's license with the ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage are required.
- Ability to work flexible hours, which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
- Program Skills – Ability to asses, develop, deliver, and evaluate programs. Ability to effectively participate in and assist in leading professional team efforts.
- Communication Skills - Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively through oral, written and visual channels, use traditional tools as well as innovative applications of electronic technology (e.g. computers, audio, video, etc.). Ability to frequently and effectively communicate verbally and in writing with external partners, program participants, employees and others.
- Technology Skills - Proficiency with or ability to learn Microsoft Office suite, database, internet and virtual presentation software.

In addition, the position regularly lifts, moves, or transports program-related materials and equipment. This position occasionally works in outdoor weather conditions, especially during spring, summer, and fall growing seasons.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong working knowledge of nutrition science, food systems, youth development, and education.
- Previous experience in marketing and communication related to Cooperative Extension and 4-H.
- Familiarity with programs like Women, Infants, and Children, Food Stamps, and Farm to School.
- Familiarity with food systems, including wild game.
- Working knowledge of food preservation techniques.
- Coursework in education highly preferred.
Position Details
This is a full-time, exempt position. Compensation paid at the rate or $55,341 annually. Excellent benefits, based on eligibility, including:
