Sheltering Arms Institute is seeking a Nursing Tech to join the team. The Nursing Tech provides direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and the plan of care under the direction of the RN or licensed independent practitioner.

Performance Responsibilities

Transdisciplinary Care

• Ensures all team members are oriented to the transdisciplinary culture and expectations on the unit. Clearly communicates the structure, practice, and expectations of the Sheltering Arms Institute care model.
• Provides support and coaching to team members to help them transition into and maintain a philosophy of transdisciplinary teamwork through role release and maintaining the highest standards of patient satisfaction.
• Models transdisciplinary behavior and leadership, assists in setting unit expectations regarding behavior, assists families and patients with their needs to foster a more collaborative, meaningful, and engaged patient care experience.
• Facilitates access to and engagement with formal and informal interprofessional education for all team members, including learners.

Team Member Development/Education

Under the direction of a manager, RN, and/or LPN, the Nursing Tech demonstrates competency as evidenced by:

• Identifies own learning needs and demonstrating a commitment to meeting their learning needs and competencies.
• Uses appropriate resources to meet those needs and achieve positive patient outcomes.
• Participates in all mandatory Continuing Education activities and maintaining current certification.
• Attends team member meetings or reviewing minutes as appropriate.

Care Delivery-Perform Patient Treatments, Diagnostic Tests/Procedures & Assist Patients with Activities of Daily Living

Under the direction of RN or LPN, the Nursing Tech will provide safe and direct care to patients. The Nursing Tech demonstrates competent patient care as evidenced by:

• Provides safe and direct care to patients in their assigned unit making age appropriate adjustments as needed.
• Provides direct and indirect care to patients with and without medical/surgical complications to meet their comfort, personal hygiene and safety needs.
• Provides care in accordance with nursing and medical plans of care and delivered per SAI Nursing and Hospital policy and procedure.

Quality: Maintain a Safe Work Environment

Under the direction of a manager, RN, and/or LPN, the Nursing Tech demonstrates competency in maintaining a safe work environment as evidenced by:

• Ensures that his/her assigned clinical location is maintained as a safe, clean, stocked environment to facilitate meeting patient needs and unit/healthcare team functioning.
• Maintains supplies, educational material, equipment, sterilization of supplies, instruments and the environment to promote quality, safe patient care outcomes (if applicable).
• Contributes to the patient experience by accurately identifying the patient, by observing safety goals and reporting to a manager, RN, and/or LPN regarding the patient’s physical and mental responses to the plan of care or any incident posing harm or threat to a patient.

Collaborative Relationships: Work Behaviors, Communication & Documentation

Under the direction of a RN or LPN, the Nursing Tech supports the Health Care Team as evidenced by:

• Establishes written and oral/electronic communication systems to document patient care and clinical support activities in accordance with SAI Hospital and Nursing policies, procedures and standards of care within specified time frames.
• Documents completion for 100% of assigned patients and pertinent patient observations will be reported to the supervisor.
• Complies with all written clinical and administrative directives.
• Resolves conflict with co-workers at time of occurrence and in a positive manner. If unable to resolve conflict, will seek supervisory assistance.
• Seeks assistance as appropriate.
• Incorporates the customer service standards and values statements in all interactions.

Miscellaneous Responsibilities

• Performs other duties as assigned and/or participates in special projects in order to support the mission of Sheltering Arms Institute and departments.
• Provides assistance to team members.
• Accepts alternate assignments as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

• Completion of state recognized CNA program or completion of first year or a minimum of one semester of basic nursing fundamentals courses.
• AHA BLS HCP Certification

Education/Certifications

• Acute care or inpatient rehab experience as a nursing assistant or aide experience preferred.
