Summer 2023 Nursing Extern

This program takes place 3 days a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) and will run from June 6th to August 3rd. This program will allow nursing students to be trained as a nursing assistant, and shadow registered nurses in various specialty areas within the hospital. As a nursing extern, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with our healthcare team and assist in rendering care to our patients.

Responsibilities:

• Completes orientation & training for the role of a nursing assistant
• Performs the duties of a nursing assistant while shadowing RNs daily patient care assignment.
• Observes all aspects of care and seeks out additional learning opportunities.
• Interacts with members of the healthcare team, observing interdisciplinary relationships, plans of care, implements treatment plans & discharge plans.
• Participates in the daily routine of each unit.
• Completes tasks as assigned.
• Maintains professional appearance and conduct at all times.
• Works as a per diem nursing assistant when not assigned to nursing extern shifts.

Requirements:

• Currently enrolled as a nursing student in an accredited BSN nursing program and has completed nursing fundamentals.
• BLS for Healthcare Providers Training accepted from American Heart Association or American Red Cross for professional rescuer.
• Must have good interpersonal & communication skills, positive attitude, flexible, and able to work in a fast paced team environment
• Proficient computer skills
