JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are looking for a Nurse Practitioner to service at the Federal Correctional Institute/Satellite Prison Camp (FCI/SPC) in Mendota, California. This candidate will provide holistic and quality care to our patients. The candidates’ responsibilities will include (but are not limited to) helping with all aspects of patient care, diagnosis, treatments, and consultations.

DUTIES

  • Provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive health care services for the inmate.
  • Take medical histories, examine patients, and order and interpret laboratory tests and x-rays.
  • Make a diagnosis, provide treatment plans, and prescribe medications.
  • Clinically manage injuries by suturing, splinting, and immobilizing.
  • Attend to medical emergencies.
  • Record progress notes, recommend clinically necessary outside consultation, instruct and counsel, and order or carry out therapy.
  • Emergency consultation to be performed by the contractor in instances where deemed necessary.
  • Perform minor surgery, utilizing local anesthesia during consultation visits.
  • Work collaboratively with the staff physician(s) and consulting physician(s) in planning, instituting, evaluating, and revising program plans.
  • Assists in determining conditions, resources, and policies essential to delivery of the health care services.
  • Discriminates between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical, emotional, or mental problems.
  • Manages the daily operation of the clinic and conducts daily sick calls; which may include securing health histories from the patient, recording findings and providing clinical evaluations.
  • Provides a wide range of emergency services, in the absence of the physician.


EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • (Required) Must be Certified to practice medicine in the State of California.
  • (Required) Verification of credentials (education, current licensor/status competency, continuing medical education, etc.)
  • (Required) Proof of malpractice insurance, as required by the Joint Commission.


WORK LOCATION:

  • ON SITE at the Health Service Department at FCI Mendota and the Satellite Prison Camp (SPC) located at 33500 W. California Avenue, Mendota, California 93640.


HOURS OF OPERATION

  • Eight (8) one-hour sessions per day, 5 days per week, excluding Federal Holidays.
  • Work hours will normally be between 6:00 am-2:00 pm, Monday through Friday with one (1) 30-minute unpaid meal period.
