Nuclear Medicine/PET Technologist Job at Multicare - Yakima Memorial Hospital

ROLE SUMMARY
Under the broad direction of the Radiologist, the Nuclear Medicine/PET Technologist performs nuclear medicine examinations of selected portions of the anatomy as requested by the licensed Provider. The Nuclear Med/PET Technologist is expected to perform a variety of nuclear procedures with the knowledge and ability of obtaining diagnostic-quality examinations on all ages of patients.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs procedures per established protocols.
- Interprets data gathered in assessment and provides care appropriate to age related needs.
- Obtains patient medical history and clinical data for correlation with the imaging study, and enters such data into the Radiology Information System (RIS).
- Handles patients with a high degree of professional ethics, care, tact, courtesy, patience and safety while utilizing supportive and immobilization equipment appropriately.
- Utilizes radiation protective shielding for maximum protection of self and patient.
- Critiques images to ensure quality examinations consistent with standardized procedures.
- Administers I-Stat testing as appropriate. Documentation of I-Stat results completed in computer system per department protocol.
- Has proficiency in venipuncture, and administering IV radiopharmaceuticals and/or contrast materials following established department policies and procedures.
- Administers first aid as required and assists in cases of adverse reaction to contrast or other emergencies.
- Measures, calculates, and records radiation dosage for radiopharmaceuticals received, used and disposed of, using computer system and following physician’s prescription.
- Upon completion of patient imaging procedure, the technologist reviews the images and associated data in PACS for accuracy and assures all images are available for Radiologist dictation.
- Understands and follows the Radioactive Materials License and Standards.
- Disposes of radioactive materials and stores radiopharmaceuticals, following the radiation safety procedures.
- Follows quality assurance guidelines and maintains accurate records for Washington State regulatory requirements.
- Understands and follows all safety policies and reports any unsafe conditions or practices to the supervisor/manager, Administration or Safety Coordinator.
- Utilizes QA memos for improved service to patients.
- Assumes responsibility of self and others for proper and efficient operation of all equipment used. Reports equipment problems, malfunctions, and/or need for repairs to supervisor. Maintains cleanliness of equipment for patient safety and/or function.
- Obtains, maintains, and utilizes knowledge as is necessary for efficient and effective operational utilization of all computer systems and equipment utilized in the production of diagnostic images.
- Through attitude and example, demonstrates Memorial’s expectations for customer service.
- Evaluates and maintains an appropriate level of responsibility for updating job related knowledge and skills level, including applicable Joint Commission requirements, in an effort to increase individual skills and quality patient care.
- Assists in training and instruction of students and new department personnel.
- Technologist maintains accuracy and completion of patient information and data which includes supply charges in RIS system.
- Performs other related duties as assigned/required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Education: Graduate of an accredited program under The Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Nuclear Medicine (JRCNMT) required. Graduate of an accredited program under The Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) must meet requirements under NMTCB (Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board).
Experience: Two years nuclear medicine experience preferred.
Licenses/Certificates/Registration: American Heart Association BLS required. Nuclear Medicine registration with American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board certification required. Washington State DOH Radiology Technologist licensure required.
