Job Description
Harford Community College’s Disability Support Services (DSS) office provides accommodations and support services to students with documented disabilities. Notetakers are expected to maintain confidentiality of student information.
Notetakers are expected to attend all scheduled classes, take thorough, legible notes on class lectures and discussions, and provide copies of notes to the student DSS office. Use of a computer, tablet, or other electronic device is required to send copy of notes to the student.
Other duties include: Reading information aloud in a slow, precise manner, speaking clearly, either to an audio recorder or directly to a student. Reading assignments must be completed in a timely manner and copies of audio recordings delivered to DSS.
Notetakers assist students by writing answers to exams or other written assignments exactly as dictated by the student. They are expected to write the student’s words legibly and give a copy of the scribed materials to the Test Center, DSS, the instructor, or the student.
Candidates will be required to sign a FERPA release permitting access to educational records to confirm required GPA and credit as well as disciplinary standing.
Employees of Harford Community College, including instructors for online and virtual courses, must be residents of Maryland or the contiguous states of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia or the District of Columbia. Work is generally performed on the College campus unless otherwise specified.

Notetakers must have excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to currently enrolled HCC students.
General Weekly Work Schedule
Hours vary based on the needs of the department.
The hours of part-time, as-needed employees are limited to a total of less than 500 hours in each fiscal year (July 1 – June 30).
