Job Title: NORDIC CENTER STAFF/INSTRUCTOR

Shift: Variable Shifts 8:30am-5:30pm, till 10 pm for Night Skiing events
WEEKENDS & HOLIDAYS REQUIRED
Part-Time, or Full-Time Seasonal Position
SUMMARY
Assists in all aspects of the Nordic Center operation to create a sense of arrival for guests.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
LEVEL 1
Greet guests upon arrival at the Nordic Center.
Assists guests with information on the Nordic Program.
Assist guests with purchasing trail tickets and provide area maps.
Share the Sundance story of land preservation and environmental commitment as the opportunity arises.
Assist guests with purchasing merchandise.
Retail sales-hard and soft goods. Rental and demo equipment disbursement.
Handle cash/credit card transactions with the register.
Maintenance of all rental equipment, specifically, waxing using the belt waxer.
Schedule and teach Nordic lessons. A level I will be able to teach beginning Classic through intermediate Classic.
Uphold Sundance's zero tolerance standard for sexual abuse and molestation by following protocols to protect students from inappropriate behavior by staff members, guests, and other students.
Snow removal off facility and roofs.
Ski instructor and tour guide.
Night skiing- Be available during Full Moon or Custom program operations to facilitate in equipment rentals, trail pass sales and closing operations. Availability until 10 pm. Most operational evenings.
Snowmobile operation- Basic knowledge of how to operate snowmobile in the event staff must act as a Medical First Responder or participating in Lost Skier Protocol.
Ski Trail Maintenance/Shoveling and or pruning.
Support on-mountain recycling program.
LEVEL 2
In addition to mastery of the above, a Nordic Staff/Instructor Level II will have the following additional qualifications:
Teach through advanced (not expert) Classic Skiing (Diagonal stride, Double pole, and Double pole kick) and Intermediate Skate Skiing (Diagonal V Skate and V1 both sides).
Demonstrate basic knowledge of how to operate snowmobile in the event staff must act as a Medical First Responder or participant in Lost Skier Protocol.
Exhibit intermediate waxing and tuning skills and operate the Hot Box.
Demonstrate basic knowledge of how to wax using a Waxing Iron, Hydrocarbon waxes and matching waxing temperatures to specific waxes and understanding of scraping and brushing for hard and soft wax.
Display an intermediate understanding of non-mechanical Classic Skis (kick wax) or waxable, understand how to prepare the kick wax zone, and correctly apply corresponding wax to the correct temperature.
LEVEL 3
In addition to mastery of the above, a Nordic Staff /Instructor Level III will have the following additional qualifications:
Must have one of the following three, PSIA Track Level II certification, current USSA Cross Country 100 or higher, or the Ski and Teaching Model of a PSIA Track Level III as determined by the Nordic Director.
Teach and coach Classic and Skate Cross Country skiing through the Expert level and lead clinics of other instructors.
Must have advanced tuning and waxing skills, with knowledge of dealing with Fluorine waxes (low, high, and per-fluoro) solid waxes and powders, as well as Hydrocarbon waxes and the various ways of applying other than waxing alone.
Must have an understanding of Ski Structure and be able to apply using Rillers or Rill bars.
Must have an expert understanding of non-mechanical Classic Skis (kick wax) and demonstrate ski application such as "layering multi waxes" and "covered klister."

ENVIRONMENTAL COMMITMENT
Support and participate in environmental programs associated with position, for example: minimize waste, recycle, conserve energy, purchase and use sustainable products, educate co-workers/guests on environmental ethic, support vendors with similar environmental ethic, decrease pollution levels, minimize the use of toxic chemicals, restore wild life habitats, and carpool with co-workers to minimize carbon emissions. All employees are invited to participate in environmental or Sundance Preserve sponsored events.
DRESS CODE
Sundance recognizes the impact that our image has on the guest's impression of the resort and the perception of our ability to provide professional service to our clientele. As representatives of Sundance all employees including mangers are expected to be in compliance with the Dress Code determined for his/her department as defined in the job description or follow the standards below.
In order to best promote a positive, professional image that meets Sundance guest's expectations, employees are required to dress in a professional, conservative fashion that is appropriate for their area. Please use the following as a minimum standard:
All aspects of the Personal Appearance policy (SPL#50) must be in compliance.
Employees are required to wear nametags at all times while on duty.
Clothing must be unwrinkled and clean, and in good condition (no rips, tears, or frays regardless of whether accidental or fashionably placed).
Blue jeans are permitted.
Men's shirts must be tucked in.
Appropriate skirt length is from the knee to the ankle.
A tailored fit is required of all clothing.
Tank tops, halter tops, tube tops, and spaghetti straps are prohibited.
Sleeveless shirts are permitted for females.
Bare midriffs are prohibited.
Proper footwear for your department is required.
Dress sandals are permitted for females.
Flip flops are prohibited in all areas.
Tennis shoes are prohibited unless there is a business need (i.e.: Canyon Clean Up, Guided Hike)
T-shirts must be in good condition and possess appropriate Sundance logos.
Hats are not permitted indoors.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous instruction and customer service experience required, preferably in the ski industry. Preferred areas of education; Recreation and Sales. Preferred area of experience; Coaching. Employees are required to have the ability to Nordic ski. Track experience and knowledge of Nordic equipment preferred.
TECHNICAL/COMPUTER SKILLS
Operate 2-way radios for communication to other staff.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
LEVEL 2: Must have one of following three, PSIA Track level I Certification, USSA Cross-Country 100, or have the Ski and Teaching Model of a PSIA Track Level II Instructor as determined by the Nordic Director.
LEVEL 3: Must have one of the following three, PSIA Track Level II certification, current USSA Cross Country 100 or higher, or the Ski and Teaching Model of a PSIA Track Level III as determined by the Nordic Director.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Employee will be outside in winter weather conditions for maintenance and ski instruction.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Employees are required to have the ability to Nordic ski.
Track experience and knowledge of Nordic equipment preferred.
Must be at least 16 years of age or older.
Level III must be 18 years of age or older.
