The Network Support Specialist I functions as an IS team member responsible for the delivery and support of enterprise technology and infrastructure systems. These areas include end user support, server/desktop maintenance, telephony systems, as well as assistance with vendor referrals. Work with the team to suggest and find solutions to user technology requests and enterprise system delivery. This position also requires participating on a rotating on-call schedule to provide required support to end users.

This position will operate out of Goodwill s Home Office, located at 1235 S. Eugene St., Greensboro, NC. Occasional travel is required throughout our five-county territory, including Guilford, Alamance, Randolph, Rockingham, and Caswell Counties.


Essential Functions

The Network Support Specialist I functions as an IS team member responsible for the delivery and support of enterprise technology and infrastructure systems. Performs daily tasks as assigned with the responsibility to report any opportunities for increased corporate efficiencies to IS management.. Responsibilities and activities include:

  • Installs and/or configures new or relocated hardware and software. *
  • Completes setup and/or redeployment of network attached devices (i.e. PCs, laptops, printers, copiers, routers, etc.). *
  • Identifies, troubleshoots, and resolves hardware/software issues reported to the IS Department in an efficient manner. *
  • Maintains hardware/software as required by the IS Department or the manufacturer. *
  • Educates users in proper use of network equipment and resources. *
  • Troubleshoots and resolves network connectivity and printing issues. *
  • Carries out IS policies and procedures. *
  • Assists with addition, removal, and moving of network and phone lines, user accounts, and equipment resources when necessary. *
  • Performs regular system maintenance per departmental schedule. *
  • Responsible for updating hardware/software inventory. *
  • Responsible for adding, deleting, and updating user email accounts in an accurate, timely, and efficient manner.
  • Assists users in setup, configuration, and troubleshooting email accounts. *
  • Troubleshoots and maintains enterprise telephony systems as necessary or assigned.
  • Gathers, creates, updates, and maintains all documentation for network resources, hardware equipment, and software applications for business continuity purposes. *
  • Adheres to safety policies and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook and Safety Manual.*
  • On-call rotation availability. *
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must have a High School diploma, GED, or equivalent and some college or associate courses completed.
  • Must have 2 years of experience in the information technology field with advanced knowledge in hardware/software install, configuration, maintenance, and administration in a networked environment.
  • A+ and/or NET+ certifications are preferred as well as Active Directory experience
  • Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to work in various environments with a variety of personalities.
  • Must be disciplined, hardworking, and have the ability to make intelligent, reasoned decisions.
  • Must have the ability to work in a team setting as well as independently.
  • Must have a valid NC driver s license, acceptable driving record, reliable vehicle, adequate vehicle insurance coverage and be able to travel within Goodwill s 5 county territory.
  • Periodic after-hours, on-call work is required.
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment drug and background screens.


Hours: Position is hourly, averaging 40 hrs/week. Work is generally conducted Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm, with occasional requirements for evening/weekend events.

Salary & Benefits: Hourly position, $16-$17.50 DOE. Benefits include medical insurance, life insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, paid vacation, paid holidays, short- and long-term disability, 401k plan, and educational assistance plan.
