The Network Contract Manager develops the provider network (physicians, ancillary groups & hospitals, etc.) yielding a geographically competitive, broad access, stable network that achieves objectives for unit cost performance and trend management, and produces an affordable and predictable product for customers and business partners. Network Contract Managers evaluate and negotiate contracts in compliance with company contract templates, reimbursement structure standards, and other key process controls. Responsibilities also include establishing and maintaining strong business relationships with Hospital, Physician and Ancillary Providers, and ensuring the network composition includes an appropriate distribution of provider specialties.

This role contracts with Providers and Hospitals for the Empire Plan, and so it is a highly visible position. This is a telecommute position.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assess and interpret customer needs and requirements
  • Identify solutions to non-standard requests and problems
  • Solve moderately complex problems and/or conduct moderately complex analyses
  • Work with minimal guidance; seek guidance on only the most complex tasks
  • Provide explanations and information to others on difficult issues
  • Act as a resource for others with less experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate or higher level degree
  • 4+ years of experience in a network management-related role, such as network contracting or network development; with hospitals and large provider groups. including Value Base Contracting
  • 4 + years of experience with Physician contracting and negotiations
  • 4 + years of experience utilizing financial models and analysis in negotiating rates with providers
  • 4 + years of experience with Physician contract language review and edits
  • In-depth knowledge of Medicare reimbursement methodologies (i.e. Resource Based Relative Value System (RBRVS)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in fee schedule development using actuarial models
  • Intermediate level of knowledge of claims processing systems and guidelines
  • Familiar with the NY downstate Provider Market
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven interpersonal skills, establishing rapport and working well with others
  • Proven customer service skills

New York City, NY Residents Only: The salary range for New York City residents is $72,800 to $129,900. Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, UnitedHealth Group offers benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements).
