General Description of Position:

This position is responsible for design, analysis, and validation of recreational marine vehicles and sub-systems - developing specifications and design of hull surfaces, propulsion, mechanical, and electrical systems prior to release to Manufacturing. Work is performed under Sr. Naval Architect oversight, with prescribed guidelines but with limited supervision.

Duties:

· Design, develop and release CAD surfacing for hull bottom designs.

· Develop and maintain detailed weight studies.

· Perform hydrostatic analysis of recreational marine products.

· Define requirements and component specifications for multiple mechanical systems, including, but not limited to, propellers, rudders, tracking fins, propeller shafts and shaft struts.

· Develop new mechanical system designs for customer convenience and efficient manufacturability, including supporting documentation and analysis such as DFMEA, DVP&R and manufacturing feasibility.

· Perform on-water testing of new vessel designs to validate performance, compliance, and safety of new products.

· Address engine / propulsion warranty issues and formulate design improvements.

· Perform final mechanical design verification tests.

· Conduct product research on mechanical equipment and components.

· Research and integrate new equipment design in alignment with industry trends.

· Ensure component and system compliance with industry standards

· Interface with propulsion and project groups on system layouts.

· Generate engineering drawings for new designs and approve prints for boat release.

· Review and approve owner’s manuals for accurate and complete mechanical descriptions and information

· Oversight of regulatory standards / compliance (ABYC, NMMA, USCG, CE).

· Timely and thorough completion of all applicable project phases.

· Develop best practices and company standards for boat development; facilitate production training as needed for same.

Education & Work Experience:

· BS degree in Naval Architecture or related field (Mechanical, Aerospace).

· Training in Computer Aided Design (CAD). Rhino, AutoCad, Unigraphics, and/or SolidWorks preferred.

· Working knowledge of PC based software (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, etc.).

· Familiarity with industry regulatory agency requirements; ABYC certification preferred.

· Working knowledge of marine electrical systems / electronics preferred.

Professional Traits:

· Skilled in customer service, dealer technical assistance and technical writing.

· Excellent communication skills; collaboration with internal and external stakeholders required.

· Excellent critical thinking skills and problem-solving abilities.

· Familiarity with Data Acquisition systems and vehicle testing preferred.

· Experience with recreational or commercial marine vehicles preferred.

Environmental/Working Conditions:

Works in both office and plant environment. Office environment has controlled temperature, humidity and noise levels. Plant environment varies with outside temperature and noise levels vary in different production areas. Effective near vision or near vision accommodation is required. Talking and hearing are required. Bending, stooping, walking, and stair climbing are required as is lifting items of moderate weight. MasterCraft quality standards and safety rules and regulations are mandatory.

Travel: Periodic travel required.
