The City of Clayton Public Works Department is seeking applicants for the position of Municipal Service Worker II. The Municipal Service Worker II performs skilled and unskilled duties to maintain the streets, parkways, right-of-ways, City grounds, and lighting and traffic systems for the City. Workers may be assigned specific areas of responsibility within a department, so not all duties may apply to all positions. This is a working lead position.

The City's Public Works Department's Mission is to "Provide exceptional service and sustainable infrastructure that promotes valued neighborhoods." The Public Works Department is divided into four divisions - Engineering and Administration, Operations, Facilities Maintenance, and Fleet Services. The Operations Division, in which this position is based, is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all public streets, alleys, sidewalks, parking facilities, street lights, traffic control, forestry, public landscaping, snow/ice removal and the leaf collection program.

Employee Compensation & Benefits:

  • Competitive starting salary range: $46,691 (minimum) - $55,212 (midpoint) DOQ. The full range for the position is currently $46,691 - $64,433.

Key duties and responsibilities of the Municipal Service Worker II:

  • Delivers a safe and excellent customer service experience to our residents and patrons.
  • Operates, maintains, and repairs equipment including trucks, snowplows, spreaders, backhoes, loaders, mowers, and all other equipment used in the operations of the department.
  • Assists in the set up and tear down of department equipment and property to support large City events.
  • Maintains street lighting, sidewalks, roadways, and public parking lots.
  • Removes snow and ice from City streets and municipal parking lots during the winter season.
  • Plants new trees and landscaping; removes dead trees and chipping of trimmed trees.
  • Removes leaves from residential streets in fall and spring.
  • May lead crews at certain times of the year or on certain projects.

These duties are normal for this position, but are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Minimum Qualifications of the Municipal Service Worker II Position:

  • High School education of equivalent. One (1) year post high school technical training in a trade's related program preferred.
  • Five (5) years' previous work experience in streets, utilities, or other related public works experience. A higher level of education may be considered an equivalent for experience.
  • Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

Successful candidates for the position will be required to successfully complete additional screening including, but not limited to the following: Background investigation, driver license check, employment and reference checks, pre-employment physical and drug screening.
