POSITION SUMMARY
The Township of Franklin is seeking a creative, motivated, energetic and highly organized individual to act as a part-time Municipal Media Specialist. Excellent communication skills and a strong interest/ background in public relations, social media, graphic design, and technology are essential to succeed in this position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Writing articles for the Township newsletter, social media, website, etc.
Creating print layout for the Township newsletter
Conferring with newsletter contributors to produce a cohesive document
Assisting with bulk mailing distribution to appropriate stakeholders
Conferring with printer for final newsletter publication
Assisting Township Department Heads to promote/highlight their department through digital and print platforms
Conferring with Department Heads regarding trends, public interests, and concerns
Ensuring the distribution of newsletter content across all Township–owned media channels
Building and maintaining media lists; maintaining relationships with press contacts
Drafting and editing copy and graphics for press releases, newsletters, web, and media materials
Securing print and online coverage for the Township through targeted media outreach
Researching industry trends and staying up-to-date on current events
Drafting web copy and graphics, brochures, and other marketing materials
Drafting and posting Facebook posts and tweets social media content on behalf of the Township
Creating and editing articles and other Township website/print content
Including, but not limited, to recording/photographing events
Conducting subject interviews
Some clerical duties
Other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
Experience with crafting message across multiple social media platforms, including but not limited to Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, and web.
Experience with print layout.
High proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite including Publisher.
Proficient with Adobe/Microsoft Publisher products.
High proficiency with desktop publishing.
Graphic design experience required.
Ability to combine project components into one cohesive project.
Ability to work within strict timeframes.
Ability to work efficiently and effectively independently as well as in a team.
Ability to present complete, innovative ideas in regards to marketing and highlighting Franklin Township.
Strong organizational skills a must.
Proven strong communication skills.
Must be highly detail oriented.
Possession of strong problem-solving skills.
Proven ability to multitask successfully.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, management, and the general public.
Occasional evening and weekend hours required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Associates degree in public relations, journalism, communication, or marketing and;
Two years’ experience in a related concentration.
Graphic design/desktop publishing experience required.
Proficiency across multiple social media platforms.
Digital Photography/videography creation and edit experience preferred.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Telephone, personal computer, camera, videography equipment, tablet, copy machine, postage machine, fax machine, 10-key calculator.
