Multi Skill Pipeline Technician
The opportunity

Erie Plains Region– Columbus Area team has an open position in our Columbus, Ohio facility covering Central Ohio in the support and operation/maintenance of our natural gas pipelines and associated facilities throughout Central Ohio and the surrounding area.
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a great attitude to join our team as a multiskilled pipeline technician who is proficient in troubleshooting, maintaining, and operating natural gas pipelines, control systems, measurement equipment, corrosion equipment and other related facilities.
We are seeking a skilled Pipeline Technician who possesses knowledge and experience of high-pressure natural gas pipeline systems, gas measurement facilities, corrosion facilities and familiar with the state one call process.

This individual must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision, who possesses excellent problem solving, communication, and decision-making skills.


What you’ll do

  • Install, commission, test, repair, and maintain, meter stations, communication systems, and other facilities related to the pipeline system
  • Troubleshoot, operate, maintain, calibrate, and repair various types of electronic, electric, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment
  • Maintain power, process controls, programmable logic controllers (PLC), electric, and orifice meters
  • Assemble, install, test, and maintain instrumentation, electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, apparatuses, and fixtures, using hand and power tools
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems, equipment, and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of the breakdown and correct the problem
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, and associated components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustments or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes
  • Oversee, direct, and perform tasks related to the installation, start-up, and repair of measurement and regulation equipment, such as: various types of meters, recording gauges, flow computers, LCEM units, transmitters, relief valves, regulators, valve actuators, pneumatic and digital controllers, filtration devices, odorizer, and gas quality devices (chromatographs and gas samplers)
  • Perform diagnostic tests, accuracy tests, calibrations, and replacements of various measurement and regulation equipment with test equipment such as a Hart Communicator and Fluke meter
  • Operate and repair various types of valves
  • Operate and maintain rectifiers and ground beds associated with corrosion facilities
  • Compile, prepare, and maintain written records related to DOT auditable inspections, accuracy tests, calibrations, odorant tests, equipment change outs, relief valve tests, and gas quality analysis such as dewpoint levels, specific gravity, and gas samples
  • Receive and maintain equipment documentation (blueprints, schematics, line diagrams, technical manuals, operation manuals, etc.) and serve as the facility technical resource in their review and use
  • Locate pipelines per the One Call center
  • Perform valve maintenance
  • Complete work orders, enter data into job plans, create new work orders, etc. in SAP/BlueWorx
  • Locate and visually mark subsurface pipeline infrastructure with paint and/or flags
  • Oversee and manage pipeline or utility crossings and encroachments
  • Complete required Department of Transportation (DOT) and Company documentation
  • Perform pipeline maintenance activities such as leak repair, clearing and inspection of right-of-way, and assisting with tie-ins of mainline valves
  • Perform pipeline locates through the state one-call system
  • Patrol pipeline right-of-way and assist with leak surveys
  • Operate company truck
  • Plan, coordinate, and perform mechanical maintenance activities, to include routine corrective maintenance, leak repairs, preventive maintenance, equipment and system improvements, and major maintenance projects
  • Troubleshoot, operate, and maintain large and small diameter valves and operators, and other auxiliary equipment
  • Complete corrosion surveys
  • Use of multiple pieces of equipment to complete trouble shoot and collect corrosion work.
  • All other duties as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Able to drive company vehicle
  • Thorough understanding of stop work authority (SWA) and safe work practices
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and related software


Preferred Qualifications

  • CDL / Hazmat license
  • Experience locating and marking subsurface pipeline infrastructure
  • Associate degree to include courses in electricity/electronics
  • Experience with Allen Bradley and/or Bristol controls
  • Thorough understanding of the test equipment used to maintain control systems
  • Experience with pneumatic and electronic valves, transmitters, switches, and regulators
  • Experience with various types of gas measurement testing equipment
  • Ability to interpret technical reference documents
  • Experience on the Measurement equipment
  • Knowledge of corrosion protection systems
  • Industrial experience in a plant environment
  • understanding of electrical practices and theories


This position requires candidates to:

  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
  • Be subject to call out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and work extended days and/or weeks for emergency response purposes
  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home
  • Be subject to working conditions which include adverse weather and temperatures, heavy lifting (50 pounds), and cramped conditions
