GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
The multimedia evidence custodian (MEC) performs work using the department's mobile video and 911 systems to manage evidence and/or information as needed. Work is performed under the Evidence Supervisor.
TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:
The MEC will be responsible for the following:
- Research, duplicate and disseminate requests for audio files from the public safety information management system.
- Research, duplicate and disseminate video files.
- Redact both audio and video files per Florida's Public Records Law.
- Print out various reports and redact information if necessary.
- Communicate with constituents regarding requests.
- Upload information to the Palm Beach County State Attorney's automated case filing system.
- Testify in court when necessary.
RELATED TASKS:
The MEC will work with the Video and Security Unit of the City's Information Technology Department and also members of the Police Services Department's Records Section. The MEC will complete other tasks as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
The MEC must have knowledge and experience with the rules and regulations of the City of Boca Raton, the Police Services Department, Florida Statutes and evidentiary procedures. The MEC must have knowledge of Florida's public records laws. The MEC must have good communication skills to establish and maintain effective working relationships both internally and externally. The MEC is required to have strong computer and media skills. The MEC must have familiarity with basic audiovisual recordings and editing technology and the ability to quickly learn new or emerging technologies.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
The MEC should have an associate degree or 60 credit hours towards a degree. Course work in Criminal Justice or a computer related area of study is preferred. One (1) year of experience working in law enforcement with an emphasis on public records law is preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The MEC must possess a valid State of Florida driver's license with no more than six (6) points in the last three (3) years. Must be able to exhibit a high level of confidentiality.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The MEC must be able to lift and carry and push articles weighing up to 25lbs. and push articles weighing up to 50lbs. They must be able to wear gloves, safety glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes/boots. The applicant may be exposed to dust, mist, vapors, gases, fumes, irritants, blood borne pathogens, poisons and toxic metals.
