Job Description

The MSW Field Director is responsible for the overall administration of the MSW field education program and teaching MSW courses. Duties include:

Departmental Representation to the Community

  • Represents and promotes the MSW Field Program with existing and potential field sites
  • Recruits, develops, approves and maintains field placements for MSW students in generalist, clinical, and macro field placements
  • Represent Augsburg’s MSW programs at community events, outreach opportunities, and with the the Twin Cities MSW Field Consortium
  • Coordinate orientation and continuing education for field agencies and field instructors
  • Recruit external field instructors, as needed

Field Program Management

  • Assures maintenance and communication of database of field agencies, coordinates with the social work program coordinator and student workers as needed
  • Assures delivery, maintenance, and archiving of all MSW student learning agendas in collaboration with staff
  • Conduct evaluations of MSW Field program and maintains appropriate documentation;
  • Matches and refers students to field placements
  • Engages in problem-solving and decision-making around significant field placement difficulties in consultation with the MSW Program Director.
  • Implements MSW field policies and practices
  • Consults and coordinates with the Department Chair, the MSW Program Director and the BSW Field Director to ensure consistent collaboration and integration of field programming and academic programs
  • Develops and conducts field orientations for all MSW students

Field Education Responsibilities within the Department

  • Teach MSW courses, including field seminars
  • Updates and maintains the MSW Field Manual
  • Develops, implements, and maintains a field program consistent with accreditation standards of the Council of Social Work Education
  • Adapt field learning agreements consistent with new accreditation standards
  • Implements policies and procedures established by the Department for student field education
  • Initiates consideration of new policies and procedures for maintaining and improving the quality of student field education;
  • Initiates expansion of field placement options using innovation and creativity to grow programs in conjunction with the Social Work Department
  • Facilitates Field Committee of the Social Work Department
  • Organize internal departmental continuing education events
  • Uphold standards of the profession including the NASW Code of Ethics and the Guidelines for Field Education as developed by the CSWE

Qualifications


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Master’s of Social Work from a CSWE-accredited social work program is required
  • A minimum of 3 years of direct social work practice experience
  • A current graduate level social work license (LGSW, LICSW, or LISW), or eligibility for licensure in the state of Minnesota
  • Ability to foster a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Skills to navigate technological platforms for data collection, management and communication and hybrid and online learning pedagogies.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and multi-tasking skills with proven ability to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills required to work with students, faculty, staff, other academic professionals and with community partners.
  • Demonstrated commitment to social work education, and familiarity with fulfilling the requirements of the Council on Social Work Education accreditation standards.
  • Ability to commit to the core attributes of the departmental mission, particularly in terms of our focus on anti-racist and anti-oppressive social work practice.

EFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Teaching experience in higher education
  • Experience serving as a MSW field instructor
  • Experience in program development and/or administration
  • Familiarity and experience with the Council on Social Work Education accreditation standards
