In addition, to its direct clinical services, DHS also runs the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Agency and the County's 911 emergency response system, as well as Housing for Health and the Office of Diversion and Re-entry, each with a critical role in connecting vulnerable populations, including those released from correctional and institutional settings, to supportive housing.
MISSION:

DEFINITION:
Cares for the bodies of deceased persons in a County hospital mortuary.
Picks up bodies of deceased patients from hospital wards and moves them to a County hospital mortuary.
Drives a mortuary vehicle to pick up bodies of deceased persons at convalescent medical facilities, private homes, and areas throughout the County; attaches tags to ensure correct identification.
Participates in the maintenance of mortuary records, including the preparation of inventories of personal effects accompanying bodies of the deceased.
Sponges faces, combs hair and makes bodies presentable for viewing by relatives and friends.
Releases remains to mortuaries and to the Chief Medical Examiner Coroner's Department.
Releases bodies for autopsy and embalming, organ or tissue donation, and receives them back after such work has been completed.
Assists in keeping the mortuary vehicle and equipment in clean and sanitary conditions.
Conducts visitors through the County hospital mortuary.
Assists in enforcing rules pertaining to privacy, decorum, and cleanliness in the mortuary.
Three (3) months of experience working in a mortuary or cemetery.
LICENSE:
A California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation to carry out job-related essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS III - MODERATE:
Includes standing or walking most of the time, with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, and reaching; includes working on irregular surfaces, occasionally lifting objects weighting over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
- Experience working in a mortuary or cemetery is defined as: Receptionist/clerical work, groundskeeper, caretaker, transporter.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience handling and transporting deceased persons.
- Experience using Microsoft Word.
- Additional points will be awarded for additional experience beyond the Selection Requirements.
EXAMINATION CONTENT:
This examination will consist of an evaluation of experience based upon application information and desirable qualifications weighted 100%.
Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on this examination in order to be placed on the Eligible Register.
ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION:
Applications will be processed on an "as-received" basis, and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.
The names of candidates receiving a passing score in the examination will be added to the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
NO PERSON MAY COMPETE IN THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY TWELVE (12) MONTHS.
