Job Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Shop Foreman, the Farm Equipment Assistant will drive trucks with and without trailers, maintain a DOT truck fleet to move equipment from ranch to ranch as directed while abiding by all State and Federal DOT laws. This position will assist with the inspection and maintenance of equipment and ensure that equipment is safely secured. Having experience with the proper operation of equipment in order to help keep field activities progressing are skills which will be desired.
Essential Functions/Accountabilities:
  • Move equipment from ranch to ranch as directed in a safe manner.
o Ability to properly load and unload equipment.
o Knowledge of proper load securement.
o Clean and maintain a DOT truck fleet for use by others.
  • Comply with all State & Federal DOT laws as directed.
o Hours of Service records.
o Pre-Trip & Post-Trip inspections done daily.
  • When necessary; help with equipment inspection, maintenance and organization as directed by
the Shop Foreman.
o Visual observation
o Cleaning equipment
o Communicate safety concerns
o Secure equipment safely for storage
o Operation of Equipment
o Equipment repairs
  • Regular and consistent attendance
Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be organized, able to read and write, follow directions and stay on a schedule. Speaking English as a main language is necessary to carry out adequate communication.
  • Bilingual: English/Spanish preferred
  • Must be able to pass and maintain a clear drug and alcohol screening process and continue to adhere to Commercial Drivers Drug and Alcohol Policy which conforms to Department of Transportation (DOT) laws.
  • Must possess a valid California Commercial Class A driver’s license, maintain a clean DMV record and have a minimum of 2 years driving experience.

Work Environment:
  • This job mainly operates in the field with some exposure in the professional office environment.
  • This role routinely uses a vehicle to transport between sites
  • Hazards: Proximity to moving mechanical parts and vibration, working in high exposed places, and exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
  • Environmental Conditions: Exposure to weather (hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions), exposure to loud noise, and confined restricted working areas.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
  • This is a full time at will position, and work hours are typically Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as department needs demand.
Travel:
  • Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be required. This position requires frequent travel between ranches to transport equipment as directed.
