Middle School Physical Education Teacher

Description: The position offers an opportunity to join a department that is continually growing its Physical Education curriculum. Candidates should be able to work in collaboration with current members to continue the growth of the program and a willingness to offer new ideas and initiatives. The successful candidate holds a Master’s Degree or equivalent experience in Physical Education and Health and an interest in collaborating with a team of teachers, a strong sense of purpose in teaching lifetime skills, an active curiosity about kids and their success.

Special emphasis will be placed on exemplifying the highest standards of professionalism, leadership, and sportsmanship. This position reports to the Director of Athletics.

Responsibilities:

• Create and teach lessons that challenge students of different abilities
• Be an active member of school life outside the classroom.
• Teach strength training and fitness classes that stress individual improvements and a healthy lifestyle.
• Work with other members of the Physical Education department to create lesson plans and develop curriculum.
• Assess student performance and write narrative reports to communicate student progress to families.
• Continue professional development by attending workshops, conferences, and meetings.
• Comfort with and interest in working with students in an advisory capacity.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s of Science Degree required, preferably in Education or Sports Administration
• Previous experience teaching Physical Education classes is preferred.
• Preference will be given to candidates with football coaching experience at the independent school level.

Compensation: Commensurate with experience.
