Middle School Physical Education Teacher 23/24 SY

Windermere Preparatory School is seeking a Middle School Physical
Education teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. Position is responsible for planning and developing a course of study for 6th grade Physical Education classes.
Previous experience as a PE teacher and/or Coach required. Must be able to work nights/weekends.

To be considered, a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree is required.

General Summary:

• Teacher promotes and nurtures the education of students by planning and tailoring courses of study in physical education and health. Creates a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social and emotional development of students. Keeps parents informed of student progress and potential concerns.

Responsibilities:

• Educates students by planning and developing a course of study consistent with the Windermere Preparatory academic guidelines.
• Tailors course of study in alignment with differing levels of student ability and previous achievement.
• Creates customized classroom and field experiences by providing differentiated, small group instruction to achieve more personal teacher attention.
• Develops and presents lesson plans by using a variety of techniques.
• Creates and supports a positive physical learning environment through selection of appropriate learning materials.
• Consistently monitors student achievement.
• Intercepts deterioration in achievement by counseling students with difficulties and drawing on the school’s resources for additional assistance.
• Manages student behavior and administers discipline according to school and department policy.
• Enforces PE and Athletic procedures and protocols to ensure student safety and security.
• Maintains safe, secure, and healthy educational environment by establishing, following, and enforcing standards and procedures and complying with school and legal regulations.
• Maintains thorough and detailed records of student progress and achievement.
• Keeps parents informed of all elements of student development including performance, attendance, and social acclimation via formal and informal communication methods such as parent-teacher conferences, both regularly scheduled and as-needed.
• Presents a positive role model for students that supports the mission of the school and Nord Anglia Education.
• Demonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible.
• Works with PE department to follow consistent expectations, procedures, and overall plan of action.
• Collaborates with school staff in planning and implementing instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to school requirements.
• Provides student support services by monitoring halls, traffic arrival and dismissal, and lunchroom.
• Assumes responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and may sponsor outside activities approved by the school.
• Attends and participates in staff development programs, faculty events and meetings, and serves on staff committees as required (i.e. teacher in-service days).
• Updates job knowledge by attending faculty meetings; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; participating in professional organizations.
• Demonstrates flexibility and a positive attitude toward new challenges and growth opportunities.
• Preference will be given to candidates with Softball coaching experience at the independent school level.
