We are seeking a full-time, mid-level Environmental Scientist for our Rancho Cordova, CA operation.



The selected candidate will provide technical support in the areas of environmental site assessment, brownfields, site investigation and remediation activities. Work will include multi-media sampling, field audits and inspections, organizing and reviewing data, preparing reports, perform reviews, contractor oversight, and related services. Members of the team are also responsible for the planning and oversight of operations and site health and safety. Work will include:

  • Managing projects of varying size and complexity.
  • Multi-media sampling.
  • Field audits and inspections.
  • Organizing and reviewing data.
  • Preparing and conducting technical reviews of reports.
  • Planning field investigations
  • Subcontractor oversight
  • Performing preliminary site assessments, brownfields assessments, site inspections, and/or site investigations on sites with potentially hazardous substances.
  • Travel to lead and support environmental projects on a local or national scale.

Job Requirements:

Must have 5-7 years of experience in the environmental industry with demonstrated experience conducting site investigations, remedial design, and practical field experience performing multi-media sampling including groundwater, soil and soil gas. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 7 years of practical scientific, environmental engineering or environmental consulting work experience in performing the responsibilities listed below; or 5 years’ practical experience if possessing master’s degree in relevant discipline. You experience should include:
  • Managing projects
  • Interacting with clients
  • Working on field projects under federal and state regulatory programs
  • Knowledgeable in preparing technical reports (Sampling and Analysis Plans, Phase II and II ESAs, Remedial Work Plans, Cost Analyses).
  • Knowledge of federal and state regulations is expected
  • Analytical skills related to qualitative and quantitative data
  • Strong technical and non-technical writing
  • Information and data analysis
  • Can recommend adaptations and modifications of scientific or engineering methods using independent judgment
  • Previous experience working on EPA projects a plus
  • Experience with remedial design, feasibility studies, hazardous waste, site investigations, site remediation, field sampling, air quality, ecological restoration, radiological issues, and/or water resources a plus
  • GIS data analysis and geo-statistics, and data management skills a plus
In addition, you will have /be:
  • Highly motivated, customer focused, and work well in a team environment
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, client interaction and project management skills are required
  • Multi-tasking and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage a heavy workload
  • Able to travel, and be on-call as needed
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications is required


Degree / Certifications
  • BS degree in environmental sciences or physical sciences (e.g., geology, biology hydrology, toxicology, health physics).
  • MS degree is a plus.
  • Professional registrations are a plus.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER and FEMA ICS-100 and 200, 30-hour OSHA construction, or US Army Corps of Engineers EM 385 training is a plus.

Work Environment

The work involves both office and field environments. A physical capacity for working outdoors, often in isolated areas, is required. Fieldwork requires regular and recurring work in variable outdoor environments, packing heavy equipment, and excavations using hand tools.

  • This position requires you to drive on a regular basis and will require passing a motor vehicle record (MVR) background check. You must maintain a good driving record.
  • This position also requires that you are able to access active military bases.
You must be able to:
  • Travel - This position requires roughly 35% travel.
  • Conduct necessary fieldwork in a variety of environments and topography. Terrain may be steep, uneven, rocky, and covered with vegetation.
  • Work in outdoor areas during all seasons. Climate ranges from extremely dry to extremely wet and from hot to cold. Rain, snow, wind, or dust may be encountered. The work may require the use of protective clothing.
  • Carry field equipment (35 to 40 pounds) and don personal protective gear as needed.

The Salary Range for this position is $104,000 to $110,240.
