Responsibilities:

As a Microdevices Engineer II you would be joining the JPL’s Instrument Electronics and Software Section, which provides leadership and unique world-class expertise in instrument electronics, programmable logic, and software and is also home to 40 engineers, scientists, and technicians specializing in developing microwave, submillimeter wave, and THz instrumentation for remote sensing of the earth, the solar system, and deep space. You will report to the Group Supervisor of the Submillimeter-Wave Advanced Technology Group.

Tasks Include but not limited to:

  • Primarily work in a semiconductor clean room and support the fabrication of advanced GaAs diodes

  • Process GaAs wafers utilizing common lithiographic tools such as mask aligners, photoresist coatings, mask steppers

  • Etch GaAs wafers using plasma etching tools such as DRIE

  • Carry out metal and dielectric deposition

  • Support design and process development for very high frequency devices

  • Follow careful processing recipes in order to complete processing of GaAs wafers into chips

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical subject area with typically a minimum of 3 years of related experience; a Master’s degree in similar subject areas with a minimum of 1 years of related experience or PhD in similar subject area.

  • Experience working in a clean room and extensive knowledge of semiconductor fabrication tools

  • Experience in the use of tools such as thin film deposition, SEM, lithography, wet and dry etching of semiconductors

  • Comfortable working with solvents, acids and bases commonly used in semiconductor processing

  • Safety and detailed oriented previous work experience

  • Able to use validation tools in the cleanroom such as high magnification microscopes, SEM and surface profilometers

  • Experience working with high vacuum chambers

  • Willing to learn and follow detailed processes for safety and workmanship

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working in state-of-the-art semiconductor processing cleanroom

  • Demonstrated skills in delivering working GaAs or other semiconductor-based devices

  • Deep knowledge of semiconductor processing and validation tools

  • Demonstrated ability in communicating ideas and processes to a diverse group of clients

The hiring range displayed below is specifically for those who will work in or reside in the location listed. In extending an offer, Jet Propulsion Laboratory considers factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s job related skills, experience, knowledge, and relevant education/training. Hiring range for this job may be adjusted based on primary work location outside of Pasadena, California. This adjusted range will be provided to candidates by the Recruiter when applicable.
