Job Summary:

Provide supervision for staff, operations, and activities associated with the Early Childcare Programs. Responsible for compliance of all classroom procedures and operations with Minimum Standards for Childcare Licensing as regulated by Department of Family and Protective Services-Childcare Division and NAEYC accreditation.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Supervises the daily operations of pre-school programs in accordance with SOH’s policies, procedures, the Christ-centered Mission Statement, and the Core Values of excellence, integrity, and life change. Supervises the staff to include the following functions but not limited to interviewing, hiring, training, planning, assigning, directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining, addressing complaints, and resolving problems.
2. Ensure the early childhood programs function in compliance with the Minimum Standards for Childcare Licensing as regulated by Department of Family and Protective Services-Childcare Division and National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation.
3. Design and develop programs and curriculum for the physical, mental, and spiritual development of pre-school children at Star of Hope. Coach and train staff to effectively implement curriculum and lesson plans tailored to the appropriate age and developmental stage of the classroom.
4. Create and implement policies and procedures for effectively providing services, care, and support in a professional manner consistent with our Christ-centered mission and values.
5. Provide all appropriate reports, budget and activity information, Significant Event Reports, and other appropriate documentation to the Manager of Children and Youth Services II and Program Director as requested.
6. Participate, as needed, in interdepartmental staffing and communication to help ensure that there are mutually agreed upon goals, requirements, and outcomes regarding the family.
7. Respond calmly to parent concerns and children’s emotional needs and/or redirect challenging behavior from a biblical perspective.
8. Assist Childcare Teachers as needed with parent conferences to discuss the children’s progress.

Other Job Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for supporting a safe and secure environment for residents, staff, donors, and volunteers entering or staying within the Star of Hope.
2. Participate in Ministry and prayer activities, as appropriate.
3. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education, Skills & Experience: Requires a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in social work, child development, psychology or related field with 2 years management experience or 3 years in a leadership role in a licensed childcare center, public or private school, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must pass a criminal background check. Valid Texas Driver’s License with acceptable driving record and current liability insurance. Knowledge and basic ability in all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Outlook, Power Point, and Excel). Knowledge of case management software a plus.

Must have strong communication skills, both written and oral, conflict resolution skills, and classroom management skills. Strong knowledge of teaching best practices and licensing requirements in order to train, coach, and mentor children’s services staff. Strong leadership and management skills. Must maintain a positive attitude and be able to create a good impression commanding attention, respect and confidence from children, parents, and staff. Strong planning and organizational skills. Possess a genuine interest and concern for the welfare of young children. Proven problem-solving ability and able to work in a team. Must complete a minimum of 24 hours of staff development per year as required by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services.

Be able to work respectfully, professionally, and in a Christ-like manner with everyone, able to maintain required client/staff boundaries and possess a willingness to serve the Lord in a ministry that deals with homeless men, women, and children.

Equipment Used: General office supplies (calculator, telephone, stapler, etc.), computer equipment (monitor, keyboard, etc.), laminator, camera and copier/fax/printer, cleaning supplies, and arts and crafts supplies. Software: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Case Management software. Drives a 15-passenger van.
