Responsibilities:
Keeps production areas clean and safe and assists in other areas of sawmill in a safe and productive manner
.
- Performs a wide variety of jobs and duties as assigned, with a high level of proficiency and accuracy
- Regularly operates a forklift
- Keeps equipment and work area clean
- Performs as a relief operator on other jobs as needed
- Performs scheduled inspections on equipment and prepares reports as required for management and maintenance personnel
- Keeps designated areas, as assigned by supervisor, clean and clear of sawdust, wood chips, bark, strips and other foreign objects;
- Operates chain saw to cut up scrap lumber and broken logs;
- Uses hand tools to move sawdust, chips and bark into conveyors, bins and scoop on tractor;
- Operates Bobcat and forklift to transport debris to conveyors or disposal site;
- May pull strips off of transfer chains into conveyors to chippers;
- May keep lumber straight on transfer chains to trimmer;
- Empties all garbage cans in and around sawmill;
- Provides assistance where needed.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or 1 months related experience and/or training; or one year equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Preferred forklift license or ability to train to obtain license
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to read and understand instructions and memos and write simple sentences.
Physical Requirements:
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and communicate.
- The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance.
- The employee is occasionally required to smell.
- The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this position include close, distance, color, peripheral and ability to adjust focus.
- While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, outside weather conditions, and vibration.
- The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; and risk of electrical shock.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
- This position requires eye protection, hearing protection, leather or rubber gloves, safety shoes, and hard hat.
