Mental Health Counselor


JOB SUMMARY: Bergen Volunteer Medical Initiative (BVMI) is seeking licensed professional to provide professional mental health services to BVMI's patients through individual and group settings. The Mental Health Counselor will join the clinical team of practitioners and nurses to provide high quality primary and preventive healthcare to a multi-cultural, uninsured population in a practice environment that is respectful of patients and supportive of medical care.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform initial evaluation of patient’s needs and develop treatment plan based on patient preferences (cultural or other)
  • Educate patients on stress and trauma coping mechanisms and provide resources they need to reach personal goals
  • Monitor patient’s progress and modify treatment plan as needed
  • Document patient progress utilizing EMR chart notes
  • Work collaboratively with practitioners and nurse manager as part of a treatment team to address urgent and chronic healthcare needs. Assist in developing a plan of care, including healthcare education and referrals to ancillary services

Licenses:

  • Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC)
  • Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT)
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
  • Psy.D. (Doctor of Psychology or Phd.
  • or Similar licensure from the state of NJ

Qualification:

  • Licensed required (any listed above)
  • Bilingual (Spanish) required
  • Experience in a multi-physician practice or hospital-based ambulatory service
  • Exposure to and/or comfort with electronic medical records
  • Ability to adapt to a changing work environment and handle multiple tasks
  • Availability to work remotely from home
  • Prolonged period of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
