We are currently looking for an experienced Medical Secretary/Assistant to join our busy practice located near 99th Avenue and Thunderbird in Sun City, Arizona.

JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction and supervision of the Practice Manager, the Medical Secretary/Assistant will perform administrative duties to support physician staff. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED with at least 2 years’ experience in a medical office environment. Experience in the field of Gastroenterology or Internal Medicine is a plus. Specific tasks may include, rooming patients, taking patient telephone calls of a clinical nature, recording vital signs, and taking medical histories. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The Medical Secretary/Assistant will work closely with other medical office personnel to:

  • Room patients and record patient information into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) using proper charting procedures.
  • Triage incoming calls
  • Prepare patient charts for office visits
  • Schedule appointments, testing, and surgeries for patients
  • Follow up with patients regarding lab test results
  • Maintain cleanliness of the exam rooms and required instruments for a clinical exam. Must report any equipment issues to the manager.
  • Answer questions and explain any ordered tests, procedures, or diets
  • Coordinate new and prescription refills with the pharmacy and the patient
  • Support the overall goals of the company.
  • Perform other job related duties as requested or required

Other Functions:

  • Plans and organizes own workload and assists co-workers with any work related to the functions of the department
  • Adheres to all workplace policies; i.e. dress standards and attendance
  • Other duties as assigned

JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Advanced knowledge of medical/GI terminology and insurance plans preferred
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to multi-task and to prioritize
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills; both written and verbal
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Must have a good work ethic and the ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Professional appearance and demeanor a plus

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • None

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires a large amount of standing, walking, bending, squatting, and stooping for extended periods of time, up to 70% of the time
  • Occasionally sit in front of a computer screen to document patient information in the EMR or make telephone calls up to 30% of the time.
  • Occasionally push, pull, reach, bend, sit, stoop and stretch
  • Have the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, and calculator on a constant basis
  • Have a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports; specific vision requirements: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 30 pounds

Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
