POSITION SUMMARY: Receives and greets clients/visitors, answer telephones, collects and inputs client’s demographics and financial information, including insurance cards, billing authorization, signatures, consent forms and income verification. Verifies insurance, collects monies, and completes deposits, end-of-the day activities and schedule appointments. Input billing information using the Electronic Health Record system, serve as the liaison between the client and medical support staff. Works with the Ambassador and Nurse to determine capacity for same day appointments, nurse visits or schedule a future appointment for all patients that walk in with no appointment. Provides ongoing customer service to patients in the waiting area and helps to reduce wait times as appropriate by communicating regularly with providers and patients regarding wait times. Surveys the waiting room to ensure all patients are educated about MyChart and help register patients for MyChart if needed. Educate waiting room patients about patient surveys (Satisfaction Surveys, PHQ-9s, Medical History, etc.) and provide assistance as necessary in completing survey. Use verbal de-escalation techniques to calm a patient if he or she becomes frustrated, loud, or inappropriate. Alert security as needed. Make patient announcements as necessary (i.e. Dental services will be suspended for the day due to Dentrix technical issues, please see window three to reschedule your appointment). Participates in health fairs or community events on weekends as requested 3-4 times a year. Provides patient care and/ or support activities appropriate to ages served; primarily adults ages 18-65 or geriatric patients' ages over 65. May also include care for infant age 0-1 year, child ages 1-12 years or adolescent ages 13-17 years.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: High School or GED diploma required.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Two to three years’ experience working in a private physician's office or community health center preferred. Previous billing experience of at least one year working with Medicare, Medicaid, HMO’s and Commercial Insurance a plus. Completion of Customer Service/VIP programs, Part 1 and 2 required. Foreign language may be required, preferably in Spanish and/or Vietnamese. Experience and knowledge of OSHA and HIPAA guidelines preferred. CPR certification required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of medical terminology, with understanding of current ICD-9 and CPT Coding. Minimum of two years computer literacy, word processing, spreadsheets, etc. Knowledge of general office procedures (fax, copier, adding machine) required.
