Job Title: Service Technician – Auto / Diesel Shop
Department: Transportation
Employment Status: Full-time
Qualifications: Class A or Class B CDL preferred with Hazmat and tanker endorsement.
Reports to: Transportation Manager
Job Summary: The Service Technician is responsible for assisting the Lead Mechanic and completing required vehicle repair and maintenance need for Good Oil / Good Transportation. Must be able to uphold Good Transportation’s positive image and customer service reputation.
Basic Responsibilities
- Assist to Lead Mechanic in any job specific functions
- Maintain Fleet Vehicles
- Adjust vehicle components according to specifications
- Align equipment or machinery
- Estimate costs for labor or materials
- Inspect vehicles to determine overall condition
- Be able to perform DOT inspections on all transports and tankers and make required repairs for compliance with DOT regulations
- Install vehicle parts or accessories
- Rebuild parts or components
- Record information about parts, materials, or repair procedures
- Repair defective engines or engine components
- Repair non-engine automotive or vehicle components
- Repair worn, damaged, or defective mechanical parts
- Test electrical circuits or components for proper functioning
- Test mechanical systems to ensure proper functioning
- Troubleshoot equipment or systems operation problems
- Operate a forklift
- Either have or obtain a Class A CDL w/ Hazmat endorsement
- Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisory personnel
Supervision, Knowledge and Ability
Must be dependable, well organized, and an effective time manager.- Must demonstrate the ability to provide effective direct feedback to your supervisor as well as other Good Oil / Good Transportation employees.
- Must have the ability to communicate information clearly, concisely and professionally through good verbal and written skills.
- Must be a "team player,” that is, one who enjoys working closely with other staff members and has the ability to be flexible, adaptive, and positive in his/her interactions with others including peers, and others with whom Good Oil interacts with.
- Must maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
- Must be able to pass a CDL physical and lift 50 pounds.
- Must be able to multi-task and problem solve.
- Must have a valid Class A or Class B CDL with one year experience driving with a CDL.
- 3 years of experience or equivalent education / diesel mechanic certification
Physical Demands of Position
Must be able to drive for long periods of time.- Must be able to do extensive walking and do physical labor (that involves lifting and bending).
- Must be able to meet regular, and sometimes short, deadlines on documentation, correspondence, and other assignments.
Working Conditions
Normal scheduled work hours are Monday through Friday, however occasional weekends may be needed.- On-call time will be required for this position
- Shop environment with varying temperatures. Some outside work depending on the needs of the business.
