Position Description:

  • This McKinney-Vento Student Success Advocate/Care Coordinator Case Worker will work directly with students, families, counselors, and administrators to support a student’s attendance, academic success, and accumulation of credits throughout middle school (grades 6-8).
  • This position could possibly be combined with an English Learner classified position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promoting regular school attendance through monitoring student attendance and working with families to address chronic absenteeism
  • course grade check-in meetings at mid-semester and end-of-semester. If not, the Student Success Advocate/Care Coordinator will create a support plan to complete coursework in content areas (academic support) necessary
  • Partnering with Integral Youth Services, the community-based non-profit organization to address emergency and non-emergency needs such as referrals to medical, dental, and vision services; provision of clothing, access to laundry and emergency shelter; obtaining needed records for health, school and post-secondary planning (non-academic supports).
  • Meet monthly our district MVH Liaison and IYS to check-in, review and revise it as needed supports for the academic and non-academic needs of MVH students.

Supports for Students Coordination:

  • Coordinate for students supports as necessary
    • Tutoring Supports
    • School Supplies Supports
    • Ensure Extra-Curricular fees are waived
    • Applicable Special Education services
    • Student/Family Advocacy
    • 21st CCLC supports (program offerings and available course supports)
    • Migrant supports (program offerings and available course supports)

Supports for Parents/Guardians Coordination:

  • Participation in “check in conferences” scheduled to occur quarterly. These “check in conferences” will include the student, the parent/guardian, and the Student Advocate/Care Coordinator. Participation will be tracked to include the following: Date of Conference, Attendees, Focus of Session, Session Goals/Targets, Action Steps for Completion, and Follow Up Check In Date.
  • Support as needed “informational booths/displays” showcasing the MVH available supports. Examples could include during school activities that are most commonly attended by parents/guardians. These would include and not be limited to open houses, school activity nights, academic conferences, freshmen orientation, sporting events). Participation will be tracked to include the following: Information Booth dates, Purpose of Booth, Participating Staff, and Parent/Guardians count with whom information shared.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma/equivalent;
  • Must be considered highly qualifed by the Oregon Department of Education (Associate’s Degree or pass paraprofessional skills testing prior to employment);
  • Experience working with children and families;
  • Must have good human relation skills and be able to communicate well with others; Ability to multi-task and be flexible to meet the varying needs of families, students, and sta?.
  • Superb organization skills in collecting and organizing data
  • Proficient with electronic communication, Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Google Calendar, Google Docs, Google Sheets; and be comfortable with student database software as well as general o?ce equipment operation such as phones, fax, copier, etc.
  • Must have the ability and willingness to learn a wide variety of tasks;
  • The employee is expected to be dressed and groomed in a neat, clean and appropriate professional manner for the assignment and work setting.
  • Must adhere to District COVID requirements.

Schedule:

  • 4 hours per day/186 days per year (to be prorated to reflect actual start date)

Rate of Pay: $16.76 (per 2021-2022 KFACE Salary Schedule)
