General Summary
The Materiel Coordinator coordinates the acquisition of supplies, the evaluation of supplies for appropriateness clinically and budgetary in the Operating Room.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Maintains surgical supplies and equipment.

Utilizes computer system for inventory tracking and maintains current database of supplies.

Maintains the daily inventory of the O.R. at established PAR levels to facilitate availability and supplies and seamless customer service.

Prepares materials management system requisitions for Surgical Services non-stock and inventory items.

Supports regulatory tracking mechanisms for implantable devices and tissues.

Assists in the evaluation of new surgical equipment and instrumentation.

Supports Department and Hospital Goals for Service, Quality and Cost Containment regarding supplies and equipment.

Collaborates with Manager and Director on setting departmental objectives, planning supply/equipment needs, designing procedures to meet changing requirements.

Represents Surgical Services on New Technologies Team and attends other meetings and task forces when appropriate.

Ensures all supplies and equipment are purchased at the lowest contract price.

Stays current with department’s budgetary variances, justifications, reimbursement issues and responds appropriately to cost reduction opportunities while achieving high quality service. Participates in action plans to meet budgetary goals.

Works with physician’s and staff to meet their needs and wants for equipment and supplies.

Provides support and leadership to the functioning of the department.

Serves as resource person for staff regarding supplies and equipment while fostering an environment of collaboration and teamwork.

Coordinates repair of equipment and keeps Specialty Team Leaders aware of issues with equipment or supplies impacting their area.

Stays current on new supplies and equipment development in the surgical arena and collaborates in planning for new technologies.

Acts as liaison with Materials Management department.

Maintains current knowledge of material management issues and participates in continuing education.

Provides alternative product information to Specialty Team Leaders for evaluation and purchase.

Conducts positive negotiations, ability to compromise, handles conflict, seeks common ground, articulates own and others goals, stays focused on positive outcome.
Job Qualifications
Education
Graduate of accredited nursing school or Surgical Technologist program required.
Work Experience
Three years of operating room experience required. Five years of operating room experience preferred.
Certification/License
Current Missouri licensure/certification as a Registered Nurse or Surgical Technologist required.
Mental/Physical Requirements
Considerable mental concentration required. Lifting up to 35 lbs., turning activities and nearly constant walking required. Standing, turning, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, crouching, twisting, and reaching.
Working Conditions
Frequent exposure to infectious disease and hostile persons at times. Frequent exposure to communicable disease via blood and other body fluids. Minimal physical discomfort.
Location: Phelps Health · Surgical Services
Schedule: Full-time, Day shift, 7-3:30 M-F. Variation negotiable.
