Who we’re looking for

Toyota’s Material Quality Electronics Team is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Material Quality Engineer

The primary responsibility of this role is to lead electrical/electronic evaluations and supplier process audits for supplier parts used to manufacture Toyota vehicles produced in North America

Reporting to the Material Quality Electronics Manager the person in this role will support the Material Quality objective to ensure our customer’s quality expectations are always exceeded by confirming technical specifications and long-term durability targets meet drawing and design intent

What you’ll be doing

  • Track change content for all North American minor model vehicle projects, develop detailed Quality Assurance Plans (QAP) to evaluate critical or high-risk change points and manage part evaluations per Toyota Standards to meet project milestones
  • Perform Critical Supplier Process and QA System Audits related to the minor model QAP, support activity to level-up identified improvement opportunities and report progress to associated stakeholders
  • Support part evaluation and process audits for major model development as needed
  • Utilize well developed personal communication skills to interface with a broad range of cross functional disciplines both internal and external to the company. (Designers, manufacturing engineers, evaluation engineers, quality inspectors, etc.)
  • Lead document control audit & revision activity for all procedures, work instructions and standardized work associated with the Material Quality-Electronics group
  • Grasp technical standard changes related to supplied electronic parts, understand impact to durability specifications & update work standards for an on-site evaluation lab
  • Perform part evaluations using accelerated life cycle engineering procedures related to areas such as solder life, electrochemical migration (ECM), tin whisker, vibrational and environmental exposure. Confirm resolution of any identified concerns
  • Support analysis of warranty return parts, determine root cause, propose appropriate containment/countermeasure actions & report to responsible vehicle plant management

What you bring

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or similar engineering field

  • Understanding of basic solder processes. (Can explain material properties of lead and various lead-free compositions, key points of Reflow, Wave and Selective processes)

  • Working knowledge of at least one of the electronic industry’s standards for part acceptability criteria

  • Ability to use common electronic test equipment. (Oscilloscope, Multimeter, etc.)

  • Proficient with all Microsoft Office software/programs. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access

  • Ability to travel. Baseline 20% (up to 50% at peak times), including internationally

  • A motor vehicle record check may be conducted as a condition of accepting this position

What you may bring

  • BS in Electrical Engineering

  • Toyota work experience. North American Manufacturing Company (NAMC, Co-Op, Intern, Trainee, Technical Group)

  • Experience using electronic test & evaluation equipment such as multi-meter, function generator, oscilloscope, Hypot, etc.

  • Vehicle evaluation experience including diagnostics using TechStream/ScanTool, R&R of parts and functional conformation

  • Knowledge of typical failure analysis lab processes for electronics including decapsulation, sample preparation, cutting, polishing, microscopic analysis, etc.

  • Power BI

This position is based in Plano, TX. Toyota encourages all employees to live within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned work location.
