Essential Duties

The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.

• Oversees the general daily duties of heavy equipment operators. Serves as a trainer for new operators.
• Operates bull dozers, compactors, graders, front end loaders, and heavy duty dump trucks; excavates and moves or removes earth and debris according to a defined procedure.
• Performs skilled fine and finish grading tasks. Reads blue prints and shoots grade on slopes. Lays pipe for leachate and methane projects.
• Helps maintain haul roads.
• Performs visual inspections of equipment and performs routine maintenance of equipment.
• Reports the presence of unsafe working conditions or hazardous materials.
• Maintains safety procedures on site between County employees and all hauling vehicles.
• Runs truck on or off landfill site that requires a CDL.
• Provides general information to the public.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Eighteen years of age; completion of high school or equivalent and at least five years of experience in the actual operation of a variety of specialized heavy duty equipment, one year of which must be fine grade experience; and one year of which involved supervision and training in the area of heavy duty motorized equipment in landfill or construction operations. Prefer SWANA MOLO certification. (Candidate will be sent to training as soon as class is available). Must have a valid NC Commercial Drivers License or be able to obtain one within six (6) months of employment. The candidate selected must undergo and pass a drug screening test prior to employment.

MINIMUM PHYSICAL OR ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to work varying work schedules between 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday, and every other Saturday. Must be able to work every other weekend. Physical ability to operate heavy earth moving equipment. Must be able to work in an environment which exposes the employee to unfavorable health and weather conditions

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.35 - $28.45 per hour
