Job Summary:
Markel is seeking experienced military veterans for our Markel Underwriter Trainee Program. This is an exciting, challenging and fast-paced program in one of the most lucrative industries in the world – insurance. The aim of the program is to place high-potential veterans in positions across various Markel office locations in the US that will provide the opportunity for meaningful careers as we continue to grow and build for the future of the company. As an Underwriting Trainee, you will learn technical underwriting skills, effective presentation and marketing skills, and build strong core competencies required for the future of insurance. You will gain broad exposure to our company’s operations and digital technologies. You will enjoy personalized training from our company's top leaders in this highly visible role.
Program Overview:
- Training in local offices, plus in-person weeks at various Markel US locations including our international headquarters in Richmond, Virginia, with opportunities to frequently meet with Markel’s leadership team and build your professional network.
- Participate in classroom, computer based, and instructor-led training to obtain insurance exposure, soft-skills training, on-the job training and mentoring
- Immersion into the insurance business with the purpose of preparing the trainee for a role that will utilize skills and knowledge built up during your active service which can be transferred into insurance and Markel.
Qualifications:
- Retired or honorable discharge from any military branch
- Good analytical skills
- Computer proficiency
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- An interest in insurance
Roles available in many Markel office locations in the US. (Financial assistance is provided should re-location be necessary)
The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors. The salary range for the position is $30-38/hr. with a 10% bonus potential.
