Job Summary:
This position reports to the Chief Wholesale Officer. The primary purpose of this position is to oversee and drive the short and long-term growth and profitability of the Region. Leading and developing the regional team is also a critical part of this role.
Job Responsibilities
- Execute regional/territory strategic initiatives
- Responsible for implementing annual business plan and successful execution of plan and standardized business processes
- Execute the regions strategic plan, in concert with Markel’s other divisions, to advance the Company
- Responsible for regional metrics, expense management and performance
- Work closely with PLL Group to help evaluate and make appropriate business decisions
- Responsible for distribution, sales and marketing / business development within the region
- Recruit, train and develop underwriting talent (joint with Product Lead)
- Provide enterprise leadership by developing, motivating and instilling confidence in associates
- Identify and communicate market needs, service requirements, competitive information and other knowledge essential for Markel’s strategic efforts
- Ensure that existing business is managed proactively to mitigate risks, identify growth opportunities and expand margin
- Develop and maintain key broker relationships to foster mutually beneficial goals
- Champion and leverage the Markel brand to further Markel’s market position as an insurance leader
- Collaborate with peers on a regular basis to establish best practices, alignment and accomplishment of overall Company goals
- Champion change and innovation through continually seeking and implementing transformational solutions for customers and our associates
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree;
- 10+ years of insurance management experience;
- Demonstrated experience leading and developing teams;
- Working knowledge of various product offerings within the E&S industry;
- Proven experience working with and influencing key stakeholders and leaders;
- Strong understanding of expense / P&L management approaches along with success in utilizing metrics to lead and direct high performing teams and external partners;
- Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal to diverse audiences;
- Travel expectation of 50%;
- This role requires employees to drive on a regular basis. Employees in this position are expected to maintain a valid driver’s license and acceptable DMV Motor Vehicle Record which will be pulled on an annual basis for verification.
- Base Pay: $240k - $370k, bonus potential 75%, long term equity incentive 50%. The base salary offered for the successful candidate will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, geographic location, and other factors.
