Opportunity Overview
We’re looking for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our Operations group, in which you’ll be a strong contributing member in our collaborative environment. You’ll find a good amount of autonomy here, as well as a hard-working group that contributes to Banner’s ongoing success and continuing growth. The ideal candidate for this position will have one to three years of relevant experience, but new or recent grads with relevant experience are also encouraged to apply.
What You Will Be Doing
NEW PRODUCT INTRODUCTION
- Provide project level comprehensive Manufacturing Engineering support as an integrated member of a design team
- Lead Design for Manufacturability (DFM) efforts for new product development
- Critically analyze new product concepts, and provide constructive feedback for assembly requirements and constraints
- Lead effort to incorporate our preferred assembly methods and critical part features that are necessary to achieve yield and cost targets
- Lead Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) sessions, and proactively reduce and eliminate the causes of defects on new product introductions
- Complete a manufacturing process plan to facilitate LEAN, and single piece flow errorproof manufacturing
- Design a manufacturing line with the necessary automation to meet the ‘cost of goods sold’ requirements
- Use workflow toolsets and PTC Creo to specify and provide assembly fixtures and automation
- Create labor estimates, time standards, assembly drawings, routings, and procedural documentation
- Manage preproduction engineering builds and the manufacturing release process
- Participate in production line duplication and product transfers to US and international manufacturing facilities
PROCESS DEVELOPMENT AND SUPPORT
- Participate with the post-product launch team to address production manufacturability, cost, and yield issues
- Research and identify new production technologies to support cost and quality initiatives in the plants
- Conduct Design of Experiments (DOE) and Gage R&R for system control and optimization
- Create and maintain assembly documentation and procedures
What You Need to Be Successful

Required Education and Experience
- BS degree in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering, or similar
- 1 - 3 years of relevant experience; new grads with relevant experience are also encouraged to apply
- Good applied statistical skills
- Proficiency in PTC ProE, Creo or other similar solid modeling tools
- Working knowledge of fabrication processes such as plastic injection molding, machining, and metal forming
- Intermediate experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel (i.e., creating graphs and charts, using formulas, creating V-look ups, and filtering information)
- Able to work on multiple projects simultaneously while balancing priorities
- Able to travel occasionally (about 10%) to our manufacturing facilities in South Dakota, and possibly Mexico
Preferred Experience
- Experience with connectivity products
- Fixture conceptualization and design
- Equipment and automation specification, as well as deployment
- DOE, FMEA, and Gage R&R
- Mold tool design experience
- Experience with assembly techniques including soldering, insert molding, and epoxy encapsulation
- Able to identify and advocate for necessary piece part features needed to meet production cost and yield goals
