The Field Museum is a not-for-profit organization located on the Museum Campus of Chicago. Since the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, we have conducted research across all seven continents and accumulated a collection of over 40 million specimens and artifacts.


The Field Museum is searching for a Manager of Family Learning Experiences to join our team!


This position oversees the Learning Center's Family Learning Experiences programming and staff. This includes engaging in strategic planning and development of the department's revenue-generating programming. They will manage program creation and iteration, internally collaborating on Marketing, Public Relations, and Web support, and assisting the Director of Learning in leading through Learning Center programmatic and departmental progress and change.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage and advance programming for Family and revenue-generating offerings; manage, coach, and guide staff members in all related program development and execution
  • Oversee the Learning Center Family Learning Experiences temporary staff and contractors. Collaborate with the program leads to guide onboarding, training, and culture for temporary staff and contractors
  • Manage programming and associated staff. Collaborate with the Director of Learning to lead in the creation or conclusion of camps, overnights, adult experiences, and other revenue programming based on Learning Center and Field Museum strategic goals
  • Collaborate across departments to analyze, advise, and negotiate needs and costs for Learning Center programming
  • Identify, pitch, develop and manage new ideas, opportunities, partnerships, or collaborations that reach new audiences, align with the Learning Center tenets, and strengthen the suite of Learning Center offerings
  • Negotiate with vendors for best costs for catering and other programmatic needs such as camo t-shirts and other supplies
  • Manage revenue-based budget to meet earning goals and minimize costs
  • Serve as point person for escalated customer service needs for camps, overnights, and other revenue-generating Learning Center programs
  • Learn ticketing system to assist team as needed


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in education, the sciences, communications, training, and development, nonprofit management, or a similar field of study is required
  • At least five years of experience in one or a combination of the following: developing educational programming or exhibits; managing relationships with partners; nonprofit program management, sales/ marketing
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and be facile at successfully interacting with individuals and large groups of people
  • Experience in editing, expanding, evaluating, and leading the development of programming
  • Experience in managing multiple programs and associated staff in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience managing a revenue-based budget
  • Experience working with vendors and negotiating costs
  • Must enjoy working with others and possess the ability to brainstorm, create, research, write, and develop programs that support the mission of the Field Museum
  • Must be able to successfully work both as part of a team and by pursuing self-directed projects and activities that contribute to the larger whole
  • Should be creative while able to analyze feedback and understand and negotiate the needs of multiple audiences
  • Experience managing diverse teams
